Demons

Okay, I know Demons tends to get a bad rap, and it's true - there are big holes in the plot. I love it anyway. I love it from the moment Jack makes the crack about the Bible (yes, I know, I'm a heathen, but it was funny.) to the very end.

I do like that they toyed with Christianity, even though doing so was pretty problematic. I liked the parallel between the Goa'uld and the village Canon (boy, was he a piece of work or what?), although with the Canon I think there was probably a seed of something decent in there. From his point of view, he really DID have to make the tough choices. Of course, it's hard to sympathize with that part, knowing he's sitting there all fat and happy while his villagers bite it as sacrificial lambs. Ultimately, doesn't seem like the deal with the devil is a very good one for their longevity as a people. It's really any wonder there are people left.

It was good to see Hanno...oh, wait, it's SIMON. I liked Simon, though I tend to agree with Jack that he was a bit of the village idiot for part of the episode.

I really enjoyed the scene when they woke up after the ring zapped them. Jack just cracks me up, and Daniel and Sam both look adorable when they're woozy.

I liked the drama and angst around Teal'c - he doesn't get a lot of that, does he? The rest of the team shouting for his release was really touching. Well, except for Jack. I LOVE that both Daniel and Sam shout in any last attempt for them to let Teal'c go, but Jack jus calls them out for being sons of bitches. (Not a term I particularly like, but the idea behind it pleases me somehow.)

But my favorite bit about that was after it was all said and done and they thought Teal'c was dead. Daniel refusing to let them drill a hole through Mary's head, Jack and Sam eventually following him. And then the ABSOLUTE best bit...comes from an extra. After Teal'c resurrects himself, there's this woman kind of just walking by. She stops, screams and runs right across the screen in the most FABULOUS way. I'm telling you, that's my new favorite part of this episode. She's made of awesome. As you can probably tell from me waxing poetic about it. Seriously, though. She gets mad props for working her thing.

I'm not sure I agree with Jack being so quick to blame Daniel for them getting caught the second time. If they had left like he wanted, they would have left Teal'c behind...and that's not exactly acceptable. Also, if they hadn't been caught again, we wouldn't have got that really quitely lovely shot of Daniel in chains... ;)

Am I the only one who gets this little voice calling out "Assssssss youuuuuuu wisssshhhhhhh!" when SG-1 and Mary roll down that steep hill near the end? Because every time I see that, I do.

About a zillion and one good quotes from this episode, too.

"Actually, I’m listening to it on tape. Don’t tell me how it ends." (<--Jack, on the Bible.)

"Well, they didn't call them the Dark Ages because it was dark."

"But it's NOT a demon."
"No, it's not a demon." (<--Daniel, after murmuring pretty convincing testimony to the contrary...)

"Did we just get struck by a big bolt of…lightning?" (<--Someone get me a spoon, because I just want to eat Daniel up.)

"Way to go, Junior!"

"So…how long you gonna keep this up? The demon bit? Don’t get me wrong, looks like a great gig. You got the padre in your back pocket, the hours are good, probably get all the chicks…"

I didn't think much of this episode the first time I saw it, but in subsequent viewings, it became more of a favorite for a lot of the reasons you wrote about here.

I loved the angst about Teal'c, too--back when they still cared when someone was missing. *g*

??? What does this refer to? *g*

Just their expressions in that cage while Teal'c's body lay there - even though they were prepared to carry on, you could actually see it affected them. That got lost a bit in later seasons. It was like the writers assumed everyone knew it was there, and no longer had to make the characters show anything.

Yeah. :-(

I don't care how many times they're in danger, they shouldn't lose that emotion.

Exactly. It got so any tiny little bit was enough to get me excited, but it really wasn't the same.

The Princess Bride.

Ah! [livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum insisted I had to watch this so that I'd get the references to it, so I did, but I still didn't get it. *g* Ah well, I'm hopelessly uncool. *g*

Count me in as one for whom this episode just gets better with age.

On the Jack blaming Daniel, I always just chalked that up to Jack needing to blame *someone* at the moment. He does that. He rarely means anything by it, it's social noise he uses to cover his own WTFness regarding the situation. ;-)

Besides, every time he blames Daniel on a mission, Daniel goes all alpha when they finally get home. ;-) (Sorry, slash hat got mixed in with the episode discussion hat. :-)

One of the things I loved about this ep from the first time around was that the writers actually bothered to let the characters scratch their heads and go "Huh?" with regard to the time frame these folks had to've been taken. I don't even CARE that they didn't solve that particular mystery. Just knowing that they knew it was there was good enough for me.

Well, I suspect it's like in any other SF show: the audience speaks modern English, so the characters do, too. ;-)

It would be nice to have seen them do something with that, though.

LOL!!! I'm far too typically American, I suppose, in that I didn't notice that his accent was bad. I'd be more likely to be able to nail someone for a bad Middle Eastern accent of some kind or maybe Indian or Latin American.

Um... someone on CSI's supposed to be from Texas?

Granted, my accent is pretty Standard Mid-American being from Houston and all, but then few people peg me as being *from* Texas unless I tell them (or do the Bubba Voice for them ;-). Where is he supposedly *from* in Texas? Unless it's Houston or maybe Dallas, he's going to have a pretty noticeable accent. Granted, I'm not a regular viewer, but I think I would have twigged to that one.

Uh-oh. I'm sure I'll catch it one of these days. My kid loves that show.

Oh, I understand completely! I feel the same way when they get it wrong for Texans (and they usually do). We don't all ride, shoot and chew. We don't all like country music (BLECH! ;-) nor are we all uneducated red neck fundie conservatives. (66% of the folks in my state House district have at least a Bachelor's degree... and we recently elected a liberal woman named Cohen to represent us in Austin. ;-)

LOL! Family Guy gets off the hook for a great deal. It's worth it just to know there's a Stewie somewhere in the universe.

Actually, I think both the actors are from Texas or at least live here. Seems like at least one lives in San Antonio and I *think* the other's from...umm... I wanna say Dallas, but I could be wrong. I get a definite Texas vibe from both of them.

We sometimes grow 'em pretty here. :-)

I just looked 'em up and I even got the cities right. ;-)

And yeah, it *is* all about the pretty. :-)

Ok, just looked the character up and got a bit of a low down on the actor, too. He, the actor, was born in Ft. Worth, so it's possible he has that same generic Mid-America (as opposed to Mid-Western) non-accent I've got. Ft. Worth's not all that large, but being a sort of Siamese twin to Dallas would facilitate that.

Still, no drawl.

They want drawl, they should hit the state outside the large cities. Oh. My. Goodness. There are places in East Texas alone where you'd swear they must be speaking English, but there's no way in hell you can understand a word they say. :-)
