Okay, I know Demons tends to get a bad rap, and it's true - there are big holes in the plot. I love it anyway. I love it from the moment Jack makes the crack about the Bible (yes, I know, I'm a heathen, but it was funny.) to the very end.
I do like that they toyed with Christianity, even though doing so was pretty problematic. I liked the parallel between the Goa'uld and the village Canon (boy, was he a piece of work or what?), although with the Canon I think there was probably a seed of something decent in there. From his point of view, he really DID have to make the tough choices. Of course, it's hard to sympathize with that part, knowing he's sitting there all fat and happy while his villagers bite it as sacrificial lambs. Ultimately, doesn't seem like the deal with the devil is a very good one for their longevity as a people. It's really any wonder there are people left.
It was good to see Hanno...oh, wait, it's SIMON. I liked Simon, though I tend to agree with Jack that he was a bit of the village idiot for part of the episode.
I really enjoyed the scene when they woke up after the ring zapped them. Jack just cracks me up, and Daniel and Sam both look adorable when they're woozy.
I liked the drama and angst around Teal'c - he doesn't get a lot of that, does he? The rest of the team shouting for his release was really touching. Well, except for Jack. I LOVE that both Daniel and Sam shout in any last attempt for them to let Teal'c go, but Jack jus calls them out for being sons of bitches. (Not a term I particularly like, but the idea behind it pleases me somehow.)
But my favorite bit about that was after it was all said and done and they thought Teal'c was dead. Daniel refusing to let them drill a hole through Mary's head, Jack and Sam eventually following him. And then the ABSOLUTE best bit...comes from an extra. After Teal'c resurrects himself, there's this woman kind of just walking by. She stops, screams and runs right across the screen in the most FABULOUS way. I'm telling you, that's my new favorite part of this episode. She's made of awesome. As you can probably tell from me waxing poetic about it. Seriously, though. She gets mad props for working her thing.
I'm not sure I agree with Jack being so quick to blame Daniel for them getting caught the second time. If they had left like he wanted, they would have left Teal'c behind...and that's not exactly acceptable. Also, if they hadn't been caught again, we wouldn't have got that really quitely lovely shot of Daniel in chains... ;)
Am I the only one who gets this little voice calling out "Assssssss youuuuuuu wisssshhhhhhh!" when SG-1 and Mary roll down that steep hill near the end? Because every time I see that, I do.
About a zillion and one good quotes from this episode, too.
"Actually, I’m listening to it on tape. Don’t tell me how it ends." (<--Jack, on the Bible.)
"Well, they didn't call them the Dark Ages because it was dark."
"But it's NOT a demon."
"No, it's not a demon." (<--Daniel, after murmuring pretty convincing testimony to the contrary...)
"Did we just get struck by a big bolt of…lightning?" (<--Someone get me a spoon, because I just want to eat Daniel up.)
"Way to go, Junior!"
"So…how long you gonna keep this up? The demon bit? Don’t get me wrong, looks like a great gig. You got the padre in your back pocket, the hours are good, probably get all the chicks…"

Date: 2007-04-30 07:21 am (UTC)I loved the angst about Teal'c, too--back when they still cared when someone was missing. *g*

I didn't agree with Jack blaming Daniel for that either. *g*

Exactly. It got so any tiny little bit was enough to get me excited, but it really wasn't the same.
The Princess Bride.
Ah!
