You know, I still don't get some things about this episode (re-aired last night).

1) Were we to believe the demon who made the deal with Bela was Lilith herself? I don't get how Bela got a crossroads deal without summoning a crossroads demon. Or did Lilith/whatever demon it was used to go around looking for easily corruptible people?

2) Random guy knows random things. I can't remember Steven Williams' character name. I mean, he's cool and all, but it still felt a little disjointed having him pull out all the answers so easily. Maybe we'll get to see more of him.

3) Burying the book with Doc Benton. Okay, I know it's so no one else can stumble across it, but why didn't they burn the stupid book? I'm torn between wanting a follow-up on that (tell me I'm not the only one who could see Sam going back and digging up the book) and hoping they'll leave that thread untouched. Because as awesomely creepy as Billy Drago always is, I don't know if I could stomach more of that storyline. When all his organs fail, will he die for good?

4) I still think it's stupid they had Bela begging Dean for help with two minutes left on her clock. Seriously, we're supposed to care at that point, when she'd clearly established she had no concern for anyone but herself? I suppose someone had to care about her, so it might as well have been her.


Somewhat unrelated, is there anywhere online which gives us a list of the Winchesters' entire arsenal?

Crap, it's noon and I haven't done anything today. I've got tons to do.

1) I believe the kid!demon's eyes were red, so it was the crossroads demon. Someone else had probably summoned it and it just stuck around for a while, just like Evan in Crossroad Blues made a deal without actually asking for one. Lilith would have held the contract, though, just like she did Dean's. And, of course, the CRD is dead now, so Bela would probably have bargained with Lilith face-to-face, so to speak, at the end.

2) It's still my theory that Rufus has been to hell and will know how to break Dean out. I'm hoping, anyway. That would rock. And it would explain the whole mysterious "I know things" thing. Any which way, I have no doubt that he'll be back. They set up the character too thoroughly for him to come and go that quickly.

3) That really was a dumb move. Maybe Benton made it flame-retardant? *shrugs*

4) Deep down, she was a coward.

1) Huh, see, I thought the reason they chose to make the demon a kid (and a little girl kid) was to imply it was Lilith. Apparently I'm the only one who fell for it?

2) *snap* Rufus, that was his name. He's not the sort I'd trust, because I have to retain a little bit of hope that our boys won't forever toil in this horrible life, only to get killed in the end. I want Dean to have that white picket fence and 2.5 kids, damnit!

3) I'm really surprised Dean didn't insist on burning it, after seeing Sam so excited by the idea. Danger, Will Robinson!

4) Deep down, she was something, all right. ;)

1. I agree with Meg on the first one. That is how I understood it. With the red eyes and all.

2. I figure we'll see Rufus again and that will get fleshed out some. It felt very very deliberate to me and I think it's leading into something.

3. This I will never understand. They burn everything else. Not the book? Seriously? So unless they revisit it, that was the dumbest move ever. heck, it was a dumb move no matter how you slice it. Though, in my personal canon, Sam already dug it up and is memorizing it.

4. Bela was desperate. And stupid.

I'm not convinced Lilith couldn't make her eyes whatever color she wanted them to be, but eh, you're all probably right.

What I really want to know is who Bela called and/or if it was Lilith or a Lilith-related minion, why Lilith would send her on a hit for the boys when she could go do the job by herself, so much better. Yeah, yeah, Bela was on the take from Lilith, but it still doesn't make sense to me.

I wonder if Bela called Rufus, who sent Dean right to her in the first place. Bobby didn't think she'd know he knew Rufus, but she's not stupid and she's got Lilith on her side (kinda, if not really). And I don't distrust Rufus, but I don't trust him either.

Don't mind my nonsensical rambling.

I could totally see it. Sam was so on the edge, there. As desperate as Bela, in some regards. Ah, SPN and your unsubtle parallels, how I loves ya.

It's possible Lilith could make her eyes any color she wants, but I just don't think it's consistent with show canon. We had YED who always had yellow eyes, CD with her red eyes, Lilith with the white. They haven't really deviated from that.

And I thought it was suggested in the episode that Dean going to Rufus was at least in part a setup? I'm not sure how much of it was, but she intentionally slipped up to draw Dean in. I didn't get to rewatch it the other night, so I don't remember how much of it was part of her plan or not.

I still think Lilith was a little nervous about Sam and often kept a distance. I figure also that perhaps some demons are hands on where others would rather use people. I guess whatever is convenient to the plot.

1. I don't think Bela's deal was with Lilith. I think the demon that made the deal probably passed on the contract. That, or Lilith is actually at the top of the heirarchy of all giving-up-my-soul-for-something deals. Somehow.

2. Rufus. He does know too much, but it could be they're setting him up for future appearances. What bugged me most about Rufus was his address. There's also absolutely NO WAY Dean could have gotten to his house in less than about 8 hours. Canann, VT, is on the Canadian border way up in the Northeast Kingdom. There are practically no roads--and any that are there are two-lane rural routes. I wish Show would stop picking towns because of the name and start looking into feasibility, at least a little.

3. If they didn't burn the book (which they should have) they could have buried it separately, thrown it in the sea, or taken it with them to give to Bobby for his library. Putting it on top of the refrigerator just seems stupid. And I don't want to see Mr. Stitched together again, so I'm hoping they don't go that route.

4. I thought it was stupid, but since I cared not one bit for Bela, I was just glad to see her go. It was a little strange that they had her shooting the figures in the bed she *thought* were Sam and Dean, then begging them for help not two minutes later. If she was going to ask them for help, why shoot them? If it was a last-ditch effort, why would she expect them to want to help when if they'd been there, she would have just killed them? Very odd.

I got to leave work at 3:30 today, so I'm now bored, since I'm still stuck inside because of painters in my yard. Hope you don't mind the long-winded reply!

1) Yeah, so I'm apparently the only one suckered into thinking the choice of little girl demon was to imply Lilith. ;)

2) I doubt any of the writers have been to Vermont. I only spent a week there, but it was pretty easy for me to tell that driving around isn't the easiest or fastest thing in the world. I think the Impala might be a magicmobile.

3) Every time I see the episode, it's gonna bug me that they didn't burn it. LOL.

4) Good point. "Since I didn't just kill you like I thought I did, mind helping me?" Der. I'm guessing they were going for desperation there, but at that point I just desperately wanted her gone.
