I like celery. I've *written* mpreg (though there is a LOT of crap out there - it's not CUTE! Pregnancy of any kind - it's not CUTE! It's HARD!), 2nd person is a tough one. In general, I gotta agree, but I have seen it used well.

Right there with you on the incest and raspberries. I'll add RPF, stupid pairings and telepathy (or other super powers) without explanation.

I know lots of people love mpreg, but I just...no. Sorry. I've (sorta reluctantly) read seanchaidh's mpreg because I love her to bits, but it still squicks me. Maybe because I know no man who'd be able to handle pregnancy or maybe because the good ones are very few and very far between. I am not weeding through them to find the good ones. I'd prefer not to have to poke my eyes out. *shrugs*

RPF, yes, I think squicks me even more than fictional incest. Pairing up for pairing's sake ("I can slash/het anyone!!11!" is not a positive claim to fame, I'm afraid) has never made sense to me. I also really cringe at long lost relatives and children. And any pork product.

And you're right. You *can't* pair just anyone. NO ONE CAN. At least not successfully. What that tells me is that the writer in question is far more interested in how they can twist the characters than in trying to keep them at ALL true to their personalities.

I can handle *some* long lost relatives. I've read some that really stank, though. I don't mind the concept, just the far too common execution.

I get that feeling, too. This is also one of the reasons I tend to be wary of crossovers - the same principle applies. Just because you can (usually with dubious results) smush two shows together doesn't mean it works or makes sense.

Fake Author's Note: I know it's crazy, but I swear this Lassie/Stargate SG-1 fic is simply teh shit!

The other part of the crossover wariness is usually because I don't watch one of the two shows in question.

I'd never stifle anyone's creative chi, but I'll be damned if I'm going to read that kind of thing. I'd just as soon whip up a bowl of popcorn and settle down for a good long beagle!fic read. ;)

LOL!!!!! That's pretty sad. ;-)

And yeah, crossovers are tricky. I've done one, but it wasn't done idly and if we hadn't figured out how to make it work, we wouldn't have done it at all. Not only do the premises have to meld, but the flavor has to.

I was once in the awkward position of being the only one to defend the beagle!fic writer. I think it's a bunch of crap, to be honest, but she does have the right to write what she pleases. Back then, she got a lot of shit for it.

I've written one crossover, and there are others and/or follow-ups I've considered, but yeah - I want it all in my head and carefully so before anything goes on paper. ;)

The rest of us have the right to wish we didn't have to see it. :-);-)

Some universes blend pretty easily. X-Files and Highlander, for example. Of *course* Mulder has a file on decapitations in his office. A pretty big one, at that. :-) It's also normal for Mulder and Scully (the show ended for me when they ditched Mulder) to go haring off to wherever they need to be, so going to Seattle wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, I was a total X-Phile for a a long time. I stopped just before Mulder left (cannot blame Duchovny at ALL for that).

But anyway, I like when unlikely crossovers actually work because the author has done a great job meshing the worlds. Some just...do not compute.

Yep.

I couldn't, for example, see a Stargate/X-Men crossover working. It's just too... just too. :-)
