Here I am, stuck in the middle.

I'm growing very tired of the headache situation. I don't know how some of you all manage it. I'm only on day 5 and I want to rip my head off and toss it across the room. It was bad when it felt like someone was pinging me in the nose, sending barbs all the way to the base of my skull (up and around instead of a direct route) on the left side. Last night it all shifted to the right, and it's worse. :( The left side now feels thick and numb, while the right...I can't even describe it.

I blame the jackhole at the bus stop, who decided it was perfectly fine for him to smoke his damned cigar in the shelter. People aren't supposed to smoke in the shelters. People aren't supposed to smoke within 20 feet of the shelters. I had just left the adjacent one because of a cigarette smoker when Mr. Stogey sauntered on over and stood right next to me. I moved, but not before I could avoid the smoke and subsequent pain. Bastard.

Anyway, I know I shouldn't be sitting here in front of the computer whinging about it. I should be lying down (for what good it'll do me - I've slept and slept lately and it never helps). The problem is I left what paltry pain pills I have at work, so I have to venture out into the bright, bright, painful world to restock.

I'm not looking forward to it. What a way to spend the weekend. Two weekends in a row feeling like crap.

I know it sounds unlikely but this really does work. Try to get a green apple, or a green apple scented candle works best for me. I read in a magazine how that scent is helpful in eliminating headaches or at least easing them up enough so you don't want to commit either murder or suicide. I thought, "What a load of bollocks!". But next time I was in a candle shop I asked the ladies there about it. They said they sold quite a few to people who'd read the same article. I was intrigued so I tried it. It worked for me! Later that year I was shopping with my sister and she was going on about how unbearable her husband was when he had a migraine. I clued her in. She now buys them regularly. They both swear by them for minor through migraine headaches. Hope you can find some relief soon!!

Also, why oh why won't people understand that some of us don't just 'disklike' smoke from cigarettes/cigars but that we are actually ALLERGIC to the damn stuff? How would they like it if I came along with peanuts or some shellfish and rubbed their nose in it? It is effectively the same thing......

I'm on day 15 now. Even with the new meds I got on Thursday, it hasn't broken yet.

Scent is a major trigger for me, as is weather changes. The neurologist has mentioned more than once their staff is not allowed to wear perfume on the job. Unfortunately, another patient came into the waiting room practically floating on a cloud of it, which was sort of icing on the cake.

[livejournal.com profile] planet_mel's idea of using scent to fight back isn't bad though. The important thing is to make sure it's a "natural" scent and not too perfume-like. Yankee Candles makes a fresh mint scent that helps sometimes, but I can only burn it for a few minutes.

Caffeine can be a good or bad thing for me. I've found if I drink a small Coke (what I refer to as "fully loaded" i.e. with sugar and caffeine) at the onset of a headache, sometimes it can break the cycle. It can also boost the effectiveness of headache meds too.

The new meds I'm on knock me out even more than the last stuff, but the sleep (or the meds *g*) seem to be helping. It's still there, but it's down to a level I can generally ignore for the most part.

Of course you realize we'll probably feel better just in time to go to work on Monday? [grumble]
