SPN: The Usual Suspect

Not a whole lot to say tonight. Automatically better this week than last just because no Jo and no Ellen and no Ash and no Roadhouse. ;)
Don't get me wrong. It wasn't terrible. But if I wanted to watch a procedural cop drama (albeit this one had a supernatural twist) I'd have tuned into something else.
Dean: Good. Love the snark. Love the video camera shots - seriously, he was even prettier in blue.
Sam: Good. Getting pretty smooth at lying - loved how his story totally didn't match what they showed us.
The rest? Not so scary and more mystery/cop drama than supernatural. It was nice that they acknowledged St. Louis - would have been nice to have seen more of that. Personally, I don't know how they could pin it on Dean anyway - the cops wouldn't have had any DNA evidence and now that they've exhumed the shapeshifter's body, they should re-check everything, no?
I don't see how letting them go is going to really help them in the long run. For all they know, the little woman is going to just blame them for what happened to Pete. Yeah, I know she won't...but they've already used the "cop lets them go" schtick, damnit. And couldn't she have just shot her partner in the arm or kneecap or something?
The Hilts/McQueen thing was cute, but the Rockford thing? Did Sam really think Dean was going to get out of there to meet up with him? Peek-a-boo, convenient plot device, I see you! ;)
This would have been SO much better had they actually put Sam and Dean together. I get why they weren't, but like I've said - I pout when I don't get my quota of brotherliness.
Not a favorite, but not drek.
In other news, hottie neighbor's hottie brother knocked on my door just after I'd put on a facial cleansing mask. Dude has got the worst timing in the world.

Date: 2006-11-10 06:48 am (UTC)A thousand times, yes! You know, I was almost scared to watch SN this week because of the huge disappointment that was last week. Thank god this was better.
You know, I was so happy not to see Jo or any of these new characters, that I kind of ignored the whole cop drama thing that was going on. Although I do agree. I feel almost like with the addition of all these characters, and now this cop eppy, that the show is sort of losing it's direction. I hope this is just a temporary thing. I mean, on the one hand, I'm glad that what happened in St-Louis finally caught up to them, but on the other hand, I miss the boys just riding around together and fighting ghosts.
And I agree, I want more of the boys together.
And dude, totally horrid timing! That sucks.

Oh, man, me too. It's like it's trying to be something other than what it is, when what it is is what held the most appeal. It's like CSI's PTB trying to focus on "romance" more just because that's what Grey's Anatomy relies on, thinking that because people like it on GA, they want it on CSI. Which isn't true. There's a serious gap in logic there.

I had hoped there'd be more actual focus on that - I mean, if it's going to be procedural cop drama, they could have at least let us angst about Dean more. I figured that wouldn't happen when the promos switched from showing Dean in cuffs to Linda Blair staring in a mirror with ghost chick behind her.
And I agree, I want more of the boys together.
We didn't even get to see the car this episode. *wibbles*

He does it to me ALL the time.

Date: 2006-11-10 09:15 pm (UTC)I was so happy not to have to be subjected to that crap, not even a mention of it, that I was willing to totally overlook it, lol. However, that being said, this really wasn't one of my fav episodes and it's definitely not one that I see myself re-watching anytime soon.

Yes! I said it before and I'll say it again. If I wanted to watch a romantic drama of some sort, I'd watch The OC or OTH (which I do). The point is, that is not the kind of thing I want on this show. That's not why I watch it. I watch it for the brotherly angst and the scary. Romance doesn't fit into this show and I'd wish they'd leave it alone. I don't care if Dean wants to get laid off-screen in every episode like last season. But don't expect me to sit here and try to watch him in a serious relationship with someone. And the writers can keep trying to shove that crap down my throat, but I refuse to like it. I'm stubborn that way.

It's true! Gah, I can't believe I didn't notice that! *huggles metallicar*
He does it to me ALL the time.
I'm one of those people also born with horrid timing. I've called people just after the shower when they're naked and dripping wet. Or right after someone they know has died. It's not my fault!

Date: 2006-11-11 02:13 am (UTC)It does feel a bit like they're trying on different shows to see if they can get a secondary fit. Maybe they're trying to see which of their competition's audience they can steal? If we get a hospital drama with bed-hopping within the next couple weeks, we should be really scared.
What's sort of ironic is that the new crop of spring/fall network shows they're starting let out teasers for have a lot of supernatural drama elements--I think there's even one with family relations...I think it's a brother/sister thing, but I don't remember exactly.
Two brothers. One car. On the road moving in and out of a different horror movie every week. I want to go back to that and stop worrying about romance and guest stars and extra cast members...

God me too! I miss it so much. The past few episodes have left me feeling very unsatisfied. I hope next week will be better.

Date: 2006-11-11 06:39 am (UTC)I liked the Rockford Files reference, though. I don't think Sam really thought Dean was going to get away, but went to regroup and plan what to do--maybe solve the case to get Dean off the hook. (Okay, that's a huge wank. *g*)
My problem with that whole thing is that...well, they are very guilty of credit card fraud and other types of fraud, and they're guilty of impersonated police officers and, as noted in the previouslies, numerous other persons.
Still, I'm with you that the case in St. Louis thing really doesn't seem like it would hold up. Once they exhume the body, they're going to see that it was either someone exactly like Dean and/or whatever it may have reverted into after they buried it. I'm also reasonably sure that lots of people would have seen the body before it was buried.
This would have been SO much better had they actually put Sam and Dean together. I get why they weren't, but like I've said - I pout when I don't get my quota of brotherliness.
Yeah, that bugged me, too, and I wasn't sure if I liked the episode or not when I first watched it. There were some lovely moments between the brothers, but not enough of them.
Still, it worked for me well enough for a one-off episode. I definitely don't want the show to be *about* them running from the law or for it to become a police procedural, but I wouldn't mind if *this* cop became their contact now and again.
(I actually think this episode was more like NYPD Blue, more of a character drama, than a show like CSI. And thank goodness! *g*)

Date: 2006-11-12 06:44 pm (UTC)I don't want to be lulled into "relief that we got none of the bad stuff" enjoyment like I was with SG-1 for a while, you know?

Yep, they are. I think this episode was trying to point out they weren't as careful as they thought they were? I wonder how many other hunters get busted by the real cops, though.

I should really hope they'd look at DNA. The shapeshifter couldn't have Dean's DNA, or the other peope he inhabited. He didn't look particularly careful when he was torturing...and couldn't little Becky say something about being her attacker?
I never got why the cops would think it was Dean alone - they saw Sam with him, didn't they? So, they pin it on Dean but don't suspect Sam as an accomplice at all? Hmmmm.

Dean and his funny noises while Sam was
super hothacking into the computer cracked me up.(I actually think this episode was more like NYPD Blue, more of a character drama, than a show like CSI. And thank goodness! *g*)
Oh, I wasn't comparing it to CSI.

Date: 2006-11-14 01:45 am (UTC)Yeah, I do know what you mean and you're right. While watching this...I felt it could go either way. There was stuff that bugged me and stuff I liked. I think they put in a *lot* of the "guy connection" stuff to make up for the fact that the guys weren't *together* for so much of the episode. I also thought it was hard to see Dean stuck in the police station and Sam got to go off and do everything, but it was only one episode and Sam was barely in the previous episode, and at least this one didn't have Dean doing virtually nothing--his part was important, too. *g* And I did love the evidence of the brotherlove even if we didn't get to see it quite as much.

I don't know. I think they are going to gloss over this stuff, perhaps. *g*

Yeah, I thought that was all odd, too, when I watched that episode. It seemed an odd way to bring it all back up, though. It wasn't like Dean fell out of airplane and they never found the body. They buried the body of the killer and many people saw it.
Dean and his funny noises while Sam was
