I think that in a discussion about Vala on Stargate when someone brings up the previous misdeeds of any member of SG-1 in comparison to her actions, the debate is then forfeit just like that one rule about invoking Nazism.

Because it's just insane.

Since the Nazi thing is Godwin's Law, we should dub this one "Carrie's Law." :)

And yes, I tend to agree with you. Every character has their flaws and their own history and their own misdeeds... and none of them have anything to do with Vala. I can see making comparisons with Teal'c, because they were both slaves to the Goa'uld, but only up to the point where she was freed from Qetesh. Everything she did after that, she did of her own free will.

Doesn't even work with Teal'c, because the comparison is ABOUT their time after being subject to the Goa'uld. The moment Teal'c set foot at the SGC, he started playing by OUR rules. The moment Vala set foot at the SGC she started demanding everyone play by HER rules. That might not seem like a huge difference, but it really is.

Teal'c's sitch does not equal Vala's to me. :)

I don't think I ever really beat up on anyone, nor would I. If people are bothered by my opinions and how I express them, well, that's a different story. But there's no ill intent toward the fans when I say them, per se, even if I can't understand your logic at all.

Oh, no, I wasn't saying that you do that. And no, I'm not bothered by your opinions in the slightest. You don't like Vala; I do. So what? I do like you, and I hope that you like me, and to me, that's more important. I mean... in all honesty, I think that people who allow other people's opinions of a fictional character affect them personally, or who allow differences of opinion over a television show damage friendships, are really kind of sad.

The reason I made the offer is because... well... haven't you ever just wanted to scream and rant and rave at someone? I know you (among others) have caught a lot of crap from some of the more fringe elements of the faction I now find myself aligned with (God, that sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?), and since there have been times that I have wanted to scream and rant and rave at those individuals, when they're supposed to be my "allies," I can just imagine how much you might want to.

I was volunteering to be a stand-in, of sorts, for some certain people who've called themselves things similiar to Ex-ParasiticBody and Nickelodeon. :)

Don't ever think I think you're cruel to other people, or that your opinions bother me, Carrie. And I hope you never stop expressing them - they're a rather large part of what makes you who you are.

Don't worry, I'm not apt to stop expressing my opinions. Well, I won't until I stop watching, and after than I won't have a basis to give my opinions.

Who knows? TPTB could pull off a miracle and make me accept Vala without question, and her little alien baby, too.
