Brachs bins

I remember going to the grocery store as a kid and being enthralled by the big bins of Brachs candies. Root beer barrels! Milk Maids caramels! Bridge... er, no, that one was for grown-ups. I wasn't a dipper, don't worry, and my mom seldom bought any of the candies due to budgetary constraints. My dad bought root beer barrels during duck huntin' season, so now they are synonymous with autumn for me. Yet when a local market installed a Brachs station recently, I was five again, eyeballing the chocolate stars and dreaming of grandma's chocolate star cookies at Christmastime (they are NOT the same if you use those nasty Hershey's Kisses).
Chances are good that I'll be scooping myself up a bag of nostalgia very soon.
