Someone, in a community designed for positivity, posted without a cut their initial reaction, which was: Sam is a dick. Castiel is awesome. I saw this before the episode aired out here. That might have had an impact on me before I even had a chance to watch. It also pissed me off, because, honestly? Why is it when Dean's being a useless, alcoholic sack people can go on and on about how it was "helllll, helllll did it to him, cut him some slack!" but Sam comes back different, and he's a dick? Period, end, good luck, Charlie.
Dear Fandom,
Sam is not Dean. Sam has never been Dean. What happened to him in hell (and not just hell, but a special freaking cage in hell, btw, after being ridden around BY THE DEVIL) is unknown, but there's probably a fair chance it was not an exact replica of what happened to Dean, and even if it was, Sam is not going to react the same way. While I'm lecturing, might I suggest you be concerned by Sam's behavior, not so quick to toss him off to the side? I would also recommend you don't buy his story that he wouldn't be affected by what happened in hell. He was fully Sam when he went in, remember, and it's looking like not so much upon exiting. It's possible he's still in the pit, or with someone/thing that is torturing him as we speak.
Just a thought,
Sincerely,
SBG
As for myself, I think it's becoming clearer and clearer that if it is Sam walking around topside, something did not make it back with him. Did you catch that bit about how souls are so powerful? How powerful would the soul who beat down Lucifer and locked him up and averted the apocalypse be? It's very possible Sam's walking around soulless. Sure, his behavior is dickish. You try being a decent human being without a soul. Kthanxbai.
Nice to see Dean acknowledge it, though surely he didn't expect an honest answer. :(
Could have done without the locusts. I mean, gross. The boils were bad, but the locusts were plain nasty.
LOL about the death of Sam's car. Silver lining indeed, though it was a pretty car. It, too,was soulless.
See rant above re: Castiel being awesome for being dickish at every turn, while Sam's just a dick. ;) Don't get me wrong, a full-powered Castiel is a good thing to have on your side. But he's not exactly nice most of the time.
Eh. I should rewatch. I had a hard time focusing on this one.
