And had to stop for some personal supplies, so I got a little extra shopping in as well. I'm doing a grab-bag kind of thing for a friend's birthday, and found a cute little book I now want to keep. The following is why. After a day of feeling very sad, I really needed a smile.

From The Hardy Boys' Guide to Life:

Survival Strategies
A good blow to the head can reverse twenty-five years of amnesia. - Hunting for Hidden Gold
It's best not to argue with witch doctors. They might put a curse on you. - The Masked Monkey
Beware of men who are handy with bullwhips. - The Mark on the Door (I LOLed at this one.)
A familiarity with judo can come in handy if you're attacked by cowboys ... or anyone esle for that matter. - The Sign of the Crooked Arrow

Boys Will Be Boys
A stack of steaming golden-brown pancakes can put an end to even the most intense conversation. - The Missing Chums (I love this one and I don't even like pancakes.)
Just because there's a mystery to solve doesn't mean you can't stop off at a party to have a dance with your favorite date. - While the Clock Ticked

Sleuthing 101
When you start receiving death threats during an investigation, it's a good sign you're on the right track. - While the Clock Ticked
Small town residents may not be willing to share information with outsiders whom they think are prying into their business. - The Clue of the Screeching Owl
Posing as a hood is the best disguise for undercover operations along the waterfront where hoods hang out. - The Bombay Boomerang

Powers of Observation
Just because a person is dressed like a forest ranger does not mean he is a forest ranger ... especially if the uniform doesn't fit him all that well and he doesn't take pride in his appearance. - The Secret of the Wildcat Swamp
Before you go to the trouble of breaking down a door, turn the knob and see if it's unlocked. - The Clue of the Hissing Serpent

Such infinite wisdom, no?

Now I'm going to have a lie down.

I only liked the Nancy Drew stories where Ned got kidnapped or threatened. Ah, the Spider Sapphire Mystery.

Probably not what the authors were intending the focus to be...
