I always feel like I should enjoy this one more. It's chock full of Daniel and Jack goodness. They work together as a team and both are far too scrummy for words. I mean, really. It should be criminal.
I'm always a tad bored by most of this episode.
The opening with the Goa'uld mother ship shooting down Klorel was beautiful, wasn't it? Nice effects on that, considering how old this episode is.
I like Ska'ara, I do, but his story hasn't ever been one of my favorites. I think they do an admirable job of setting up the triad and the arguments are interesting enough, but ultimately it was clear from the start which way the vote was going to go. I do like, though, that I think it was Ska'ara's own testimony that sold it for Lya and not Jack's, Daniel's or Zipacna's. That was a nice touch.
Elements of the triad were quite nice. The look on Daniel's face as Ska'ara's describing Klorel ribboning him always breaks my heart a little. Jack and Daniel tag teaming was great - they are so different, but so much the same. And they're pretty, oh, so pretty.
I wonder watching it now, I'm tainted by the foreshadowing of Jack's snark regarding technology. He laid it on really thick here, and it makes me think that was intentional on his part. It made the episode seem much more like a set-up for future events than it was its own standalone. If I could separate that out, I might be able to enjoy this more? Hmmm.
Did I mention how delicious Jack and Daniel were? Oh my. S3 wins at everything.
Teal'c rocked it, what little he had to do. I loved that he disregarded Jack's orders. It was foolish of the Tollan to think they were fine, and it was pretty clear they have blinders on - they think they're fabulous and can't be touched. I also quite enjoyed Teal'c taking out Zippy with great proficiency. I was right there with Jack's "Nice!" comment. ;)
I like Lya edging very close to the line. I also like that she looked upset out in the field, rightfully so.
Also, there were a number of good quotes, including:
"Of course you were..."
"Way smarter than we are." (Jack and Daniel, finishing each other's sentences. Aww.)
"Ours is bigger."
"Is that a money-back-if-you're-not-completely-alive guarantee?"
"Yeah, well, I know all this weapons chatter gets my blood pumping...can we get back to the triad?"
That's all for this one.
