I really don't get why Smallville premieres tonight, but instead of premiering Supernatural The CW is re-airing Reaper instead. It does not make a whit of sense to me. Are they trying to garner more people for Reaper? Since the show looks absolutely abysmal, and probably is, that'll just mean more people will tune out after Smallville next week when Supernatural premieres.

I suppose it's more likely that they don't want to compete with the GA/CSI premieres*.

Sometimes it's hard not to think there's a conspiracy to kill all shows with potential, though. For Supernatural, first there was the addition of T&A (I'll say again that I do not oppose growing the universe a bit, just that it's extremely transparent that the growth just happens to include two hot young white girls), general lack of effective marketing and now this weird scheduling tactic.

*IMNSHO, the way to avoid this competition is to move Supernatural to a better time slot and date. Also, I feel horrible as a woman hoping the CSI promos hinting at a certain character's death are not misleading (like they probably are). Because said certain character should have been kick ass and smart and cool and ended up primarily being the freakin' Love Interest in a romance that is not very compelling to watch. Seriously, I threw up a little in my mouth at seeing the couple in the same bed for a millisecond...and they were above covers and fully clothed.

UGH, Grissom has better taste than that, too. (Not being up on the current seasons, I may be thinking of a different pairing, but if we're talking about the Sarah crap - I'm rooting for the grim reaper in this one.)

I've only ever caught it on Spike, but it's one of the default shows my kid and I watch. I find Sarah... tedious at best.

What you said. ;)

I didn't watch CSI last season because of the Ick Factor of the prior season's finale. I've also been seeing the promos and rooting for Death to win.

And one of the things my kid mentioned just this week while we were watching was how nice it was that they gave all the characters problems of some kind to deal with but didn't overwhelm us with them. The episode in question had a passing reference to Warrick's gambling problem. Give us a little window into their private lives, but *damn* I watch for their professional lives.

The scary thing is that I could have *seen* romance between Grissom and Catherine. Sarah's just jarring.

There are so many shows that start out with the plots originating from "external" sources -- a criminal or medical case, a missing person, etc. -- but as they progress, the passing mention of personal lives moves to the forefront, to the point where plots originate from "internal" sources.

Someone's dead? Sick? Missing? Who cares, we need to know more about their love lives!

And I don't mind the *occasional* story about that, but *damn*, if I want to watch a soap opera, I'll change channels.

Yep, I actually like some soap operas, when I have time to watch them. But if that's not what I signed on for, I don't want to see it.

It's similar to a certain author whose name I won't mention ::cough::LKH::cough:: who changed from urban fantasy/mystery to "who shall our heroine have sex with in this book?"

I don't haven anything against erotica (you know what I read *g*), but that wasn't what I signed on for, and what I did enjoy about the series fell to the wayside to make way for the Crotch of Doom.

There's a joke about is there any tread left on the tires, or would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. Totally describes the Crotch of Doom.

Some (ex)fans say the heroine should wear panties that say on the front, "Save the world, insert penis here," with an arrow pointing down. ;)

And I'm totally off topic. Mea culpa. ;)

It's just not enough trauma for a team member to be missing, she has to be The Love Interest.

I keep wondering if perhaps they're trying to replicate the episode Tarantino did, which put Nick in danger and got a lot of media attention.

I've never been a massive fan of the show, mostly watching on Spike, but Sara has always been on the annoying side. I could tolerate her as a member of the team, but when she kept pushing for a romance with a guy who wasn't interested, she skeeved me out. Then TPTB let it happen, and I found myself skeeved out even more.

Exactly. Interoffice romance does happen, but in most cases, it gets talked about by others in the office. Sometimes people get called on their relationship and/or fired, often due to co-workers feeling someone's getting better treatment because they're having sex with the boss. We never see that bit of reality.
