It's a twofer special! I missed last week, and just happened to have a bit of time this afternoon to watch both episodes. I didn't take any notes, though, because I'm just lazy. Even if I had, I'm not sure I'd have a lot to say about either of these episodes, as they're really not on my favorites list.

First, Learning Curve:

Interesting story idea. I appreciated that they pretty openly acknowledged how people from Earth were applying their own morals and beliefs into situations that didn't fit into those ideals. Not saying raising kids specifically so they can have their brains sucked out for the better of society as a whole, and then sticking them in a long term care facility is something I really agree with...but I can't disagree with it, either, and that was the point of the episode.

There were lots of little things to love about this episode.

1) Daniel in a bandana. Might be the best thing about the ep, actually. ;)

2) Teal'c and Tomin. How cute were they, seriously? I liked that the boy was very similar to Teal'c, and that both of them got attached to one another in a completely real, but rather non-emotional (on the surface) way.

3) Jack with Merrin. Granted, I thought it a bit odd that he was getting so worked up about her specifically, considering it was Sam who spent the bulk of the time with the girl. Lead Actor Syndrome. ;) In any case, those minutes where he totally broke rules and should have been fired for were pretty sweet. Also, as a side note - when all the kids are drawing things they love, there's one shot that shows the portrait of Jack...with a rainbow drawn right next to it. I wish I could find a screen capture of that. Hmmmmm. Just sayin'. Kids can tell things.

PoV:

Ugh. Sorry, this episode just disappoints me every time I see it. Parts of it are good, but I find it vaguely perturbing that they've got this alternate reality thing to play with, and the most exciting deviation they ever seem to come up with is how Jack and Sam are in TWU LUV FOREVAH (except not, because in the realities they end up together, the Goa'uld also wipe out humankind). Seriously...alternate realities, people. Do something interesting with them! Such fantastic fodder to play with, so much OTHER material than sappy-music-accompanied romance.

Rant over. Mostly. I guess it's more than vaguely perturbing to me.

Thankfully Doctor Carter eventually stops being a total drip (yeah, yeah, emotional trauma, yadda) and starts focusing on, y'know, the rest of her world instead of all the stuff SHE'S lost, and the episode improved toward the latter half.

I don't share the Kawalsky (<-- original way they spelled it, and I'm sticking with it) love, so it was no big deal for me to see him.

Teal'c killed himself. Is it wrong that I found that kind of awesome as well as scary?

Daniel's freaking adorable. I love S3 Daniel. Unfortunately, he's got little to do but play with the mirror and look cute. Oh, and take a zat to the back of the head. Ouch.

As much as I really hate the romance crap, I have to say that Jack handled it all reasonably well. He was pretty nice to Dr Carter while she blubbered all over him.

Sam's really hunky-dory with it all? After the first shock, she just tra-la-las along with her alternate self, which is astonishingly well adjusted of her.

I dunno. I still think it's just a damned shame they can't seem to do really cool stuff with alternate realities.

Isn't it? LOL Man, another reason why I have fun with COM. :)

I can't really disagree with anything you wrote here. I adore S3 Daniel, too.

Season 3 is my 3rd favorite season overall, because it was still the show I loved and the characters were still the characters I loved, but it was already changing a bit in small ways. The characters seemed less connected, even in emotional episodes like Legacy. There are still lots of good episodes, though, and many good moments in the episodes, even in one like POV where the premise is so lame and, as you stated, they didn't do much with the whole AU thing.

I never loved Kawalsky either. How did they spell his name later?
