Happy Fake Holiday!

I hate Valentine's Day, I really do. I'm all for love, but I'm not all for greeting cards, chocolates, and roses (which suddenly become WAY more expensive than they usually are). If you love someone, you shouldn't need a day designated to offer visual aids.

Date: 2007-02-15 06:17 am (UTC)I don't really understand why some people make a big deal about it--either by the buying of expensive gifts or whatever or by feeling bad about it if they're not in a relationship. To me it's just a total non-holiday, except maybe a chance for reflection--and sometimes a chance to eat candy. *g*
I'm actually working on something I want to write about the toolman. It's actually something I've been working on for a while and when I realized I was still working on it, I thought it might be nice to post it on Valentine's Day, but I didn't finish it in time, so maybe next week. :-)
A good thing about Valentine's Day in fandom, though, is some of the schmoopy stories that get posted--the ones that are actually really good--and sometimes even the ones that are just silly. Many of them can be fun. :-)
My least favorite holiday is actually New Year's because people use that as an excuse to get drunk and act stupid.

Date: 2007-02-15 10:44 pm (UTC)We did the whole card thing in class, but somehow it was far more innocent than things are today - most of the cards and gifts aimed at teenagers make ME blush!
I guess it is that innocence of pure romance that seems to have been swept away by the hype that makes me hate it most.

Date: 2007-02-16 03:57 am (UTC)We didn't do cards in class beyond 5th or 6th grade, so the most daring thing the cards said was "Be mine" or something like that. I hated those because I never wanted to give one to anyone lest it be taken the wrong way. hehe The cards are just really cheap, though. You can buy a whole box of them for the price you'd pay for one regular card.
