SPN: Nightshifter

Now that was awesome.
I loved this episode. I'm a bit concerned that they've got too many big balls in the air, though. It isn't enough that they've got a yellow eyed demon and other hunters to contend with, now they've got a full-on FBI manhunt? Sure, one hunt's for Sam and the other Dean, it just seems like they're overloading. They could be pushing it too far or it could be really, really cool. Who knows at this point. I just fret.
The cast is gone! :)
Loved Sam's FBI hair - and it was much better for the rest of the episode, too.
Mandroids.
"I like him. He says 'okie dokie.'"
Loved that the vic liked Dean more than Sam for once. Tee hee.
"We're not working for the mandroids!"
"You shut up! I don't like you."
"Fair enough."
Loved Ronald, may he rest in peace. *sniff* A friend of mine, recently converted, told me she was impressed with the writers' knack for establishing lots of depth for the guests of the week - it's true. There aren't many that I haven't loved, from Hailey in Wendigo to Jenny in Home to Max (yes, I actually liked Max) to the geeky ghost hunters in Hell House - all only on for one episode, all great. It's difficult to actually care about people you hardly see, and SPN's PTB have done a great job at creating those characters and casting them well. There are exceptions.
Loved Sam suffering through that woman's gushing over Dean. Cracked. Me. Up.
"Hi, Ron."
Loved that Dean no longer finds it amusing that he's on the FBI's most wanted list, and that he did find it amusing that the AIC called Sam his "Bonnie." Poor Sam, always called the woman.
Loved Dean. My, he was pretty. They're shaving him closer this season. I like both shaven and un.
How did the FBI guy know it was Dean and Sam in there, before Dean ducked his head out, I mean?
Sam's gung-ho go-where-angels-fear-to tread thing kind of scares me. I think it threw Dean a bit, Sam just taking off after the shapeshifter after poor Ronald bit it. And why did they just shoot Ronald anyway? He hadn't threatened anyone, or hurt anyone. Would they have really taken a shot like that?
Loved the Ocean's Eleven swap the SWAT team's uniforms they pulled. Lucky they found one that fit Sam. ;)
PERFECT song at the end.
Clearly I don't have much of great import to say, but I'd give this one two enthusiastic thumbs up. There still wasn't a whole ton of Sam and Dean working together, but it was enough. (Meaning, they were together but apart for good chunks of the episode.)

Date: 2007-01-27 01:01 am (UTC)It made sense that the boys split up a bit, and even though they were apart, they were in the same place, if you know what I mean.
Boy, they are screwed, aren't they? I used to play that Styx album over and over, and as soon as the beat started, I was bouncing.
I think Kripke knows what he's doing though...and that he's going to tie everything together in his finale, and still, somehow, leave us hanging.

Date: 2007-01-27 04:27 am (UTC)They're totally screwed. Excellent, excellent song choice at the end. Love it. Have friggin' had it in my head all day.
My hope for the rest of the season is very minimal Jo/Ellen/Ash/Roadhouse. ;)

Date: 2007-01-27 07:31 am (UTC)I didn't even notice that! *g* I'm glad for JP. He must've been pretty sick of it.
Loved Sam suffering through that woman's gushing over Dean. Cracked. Me. Up.
Me too! "Has he always been so...wonderful?" *g*
Loved Dean. My, he was pretty. They're shaving him closer this season. I like both shaven and un.
I wondered about. I like both, too, but I think I like unshaven better. OTOH, JP has really beefed up this season and between that and the new horrid hair, he looks much older than Dean and just sort of hulks over him quite a bit.
But Dean is looking younger than he did last season and Sam is looking ages older, and I'm not sure what the intent is there. IRL pics, they both look about the same age, so I think it's the makeup and the lighting and the fact that they're not being careful about Sam being Sasquatch. *g*
At the Paley thing and in other interviews, JA has talked about standing on apple boxes (like Teryl Rothery used to have to do), so this makes me wonder if they've just given up. They never showed JA as being bigger or taller, but I think they were more careful to stage things so that Jared's excessive height wasn't so noticeable. Even my husband noticed it once we got to ELAC, and he'd never remarked on it before.
He hadn't threatened anyone, or hurt anyone. Would they have really taken a shot like that?
I think so. He was holding a whole bunch of hostages at gunpoint. From the POV of the cops, he was a Very Bad Guy. They were looking for a way out of the situation and since negotiation didn't work, this was the next step. According to Cop Shows 101, this is what they cops would do. *g* (I'm just kidding. I really don't know, but I have seen similar occurrences on other TV shows. hehe)
Loved the Ocean's Eleven swap the SWAT team's uniforms they pulled. Lucky they found one that fit Sam. ;)
I totally did not get that or how that happened, until I read someone else squeeing about it. *g* I'm such a dumbass sometimes, but I didn't realize the SWAT guy who "caught" Dean was Sam--not even the second time I watched it.
I also thought that the two guys in the closet were supposed to be Sam & Dean. It looked like them to me. But not the real Sam & Dean, but Shapeshifters Sam & Dean. When the cop said they didn't need to look for Sam and Dean any more, I assumed it was because he found their dead bodies in the closet, and I couldn't figure out how that could have happened unless there was more than one shapeshifter and they'd either convinced the shapeshifters to help them or the shapeshifters had changed into Sam and Dean and the real Sam and Dean noticed it, overpowered them, and then...uh... LOL
This is why I need

Yep. While I dislike that trend, it worked okay in this episode. They are definitely doing a better job of this than Stargate ever managed to do, anyway, unfair as that comparison may be. *g*

Date: 2007-01-28 02:23 am (UTC)You keep saying that, but I have to say I'm not seeing him the same way. I don't think Sam looks older than Dean, even when Dean's cleanshaven.

Seriously. What a pain in the butt it must have been. At least JA's not 5'9" or something. Then he'd look tiny.

It just didn't seem to jive - later the Milwaukee cop was reluctant to send in SWAT because so far none of the "hostages" had been hurt. I suppose we're supposed to assume the snipers saw Ronald go after the shifter and shot him before he could shoot at it.

Jeez. ;)
