Fire engine, vroom vroom.

There's been a fire engine outside for about two hours now. Idling the whole damned time. One would think that after the first half hour they'd have realized whatever they're doing was going to take a while (it's not a fire) and they'd shut the stupid thing off.

If any of them were cute I might enjoy it, but none of them are so I'm annoyed that engine noise and exhaust are polluting my apartment.

I had a firefighter boyfriend for awhile, and I asked him about that once. He said (if I'm remembering correctly) that it actually uses less fuel to leave a diesel engine idling for hours than it does to turn it off and turn it on again. And then there's also the chance that they'll be called to do another run, and it takes awhile for the engine to warm up if it's been turned off.

Still doesn't make up for the horrible smell or the noise though!

Yeah, I'd heard that. It just gets old listening and smelling it after two hours. Never mind that they totally blocked the street for the duration as well.

I'd find that annoying. I could never live in the city with all the noises. I don't ever, ever want to hear my neighbors or anyone doing anything. hehe My eventual goal is to live somewhere that we don't have any neighbors at all.
