Eureka or You Reeka?

I think I have to give up on Eureka. They did a space/time continuum episode last night, in which one character went back to change the outcome of an experiment because it killed the woman he loved. In and of itself, the idea was fine...but the very first scene we see after this disruption is the lead male character waking up some morning in the future, with his (surprise!) wife, the lead female character, with whom he doesn't have a relationship as far as we all know (knew?) even though he does kind of dig on her in real time. She, meanwhile, digs on her ex-husband a little bit. Oh, and another shocking "twist" - his wife is pregnant. In that first scene, we have the surprise wife literally barefoot and pregnant.
Excuse me while I hurl.
The whole episode was riddled with these relationship gems. There were other changes to the space/time whatever, but the primary ones were definitely based on the heterosexual relationships between various pairings, the most important (though not the truly important one) was, naturally, Lead Male Character/Lead Female Character. Now we know, you see, that they are destined to be together. Lead Male Character flat-out said so, as he was prepping to go back in time and fix the initial change so the world didn't fall apart. OTP, people, OTP. Too bad they lack that kind of chemistry.
Anyway, how totally uninspired of Eureka's PTB. I'd be more disappointed, but I never expected much out of them anyway. It's just that with every space/time continuum story, I have this insane hope that someone, sometime won't pull out the oldest cliche in the book.

Date: 2006-10-04 05:01 pm (UTC)It's a fluffy show indeed, but this ship thing is starting to become annoying. It's like PTB don't even care if the cast has the right chemistry for it, and in this case they really don't. I like Carter and Allison well enough, but I like them as colleagues, not love bunnies.
