Am I the only one who thinks Pamela Anderson isn't really very pretty at all?
I ordered the full mattress. I don't need a queen and my parents drilled into me that you don't put wants in front of needs. Of course, technically I don't need a full either but I refuse to sleep on a twin.
I have Jensen Ackles saying "persqueeter" in my head and he won't stop.
If Dude With Ferengi Ears can get a girlfriend, why can't I get a guy to look twice at me?

Date: 2006-07-19 05:08 pm (UTC)Dude, I don't know what I would do without my queen. Plus, it's good for sleepovers. But then, I've been sleeping on a queen since I was ten. I don't think I could go to anything smaller now.

I didn't even have my own room until I was a senior in college. The girls' room in my family usually had four of us crammed in there at a time. Full mattresses weren't even an option. ;)

Despite myths to the contrary, guys have a much easier time getting women to date them than women have with men. I mean, we set up a society where only men could access resources, and denied women the right to vote, work, get educations, etc., so women would have to go through men to get resources. What posssible motive for that could there be, but to ensure that even the least fit men will be able to reproduce, women's choices be damned? And yeah, all that's changing, but the attitudes are still firmly in place, and digging in their heels.
Sorry for rambling - I'm reading a book about how female choice about reproduction seems to be an important factor in producing viable offspring and selecting for the best genes in each generation, and how when you turn that upside down, your species will eventually have serious viability issues. It's not hard, provable science, of course, but it echoes my own beliefs, so I embrace it like it's fact. *G*

Ah, yes. Property doesn't usually get to make a choice, eh?

Really? That's interesting.

Date: 2006-07-20 01:59 am (UTC)The book I referred to is refuting the idea that rape is a natural evolutionary behavior. One chapter pointed out that it actually thwarts natural selection by removing the female's ability to choose the fittest mate. They pointed out how denying women access to resources except through men, and almost always in return for sex, means that men are pretty much deciding who reproduces, and how, and with whom, with little input from women. In other primates, it's pretty clear that females have criteria for picking a mate, and this is good for evolution: our criteria is being thwarted, and so for thousands of years, we've been breeding less viable young. We've countered that effect so far by developing medicines and better weapons to protect us from lions and tigers and bears. But it probably can't go on forever.
