I finally did it - I covertly bought and sent a fair amount in grocery store gift certificates to my parents, so that when month end comes they will have money for food. I have to say it's kind of exhilirating doing things anonymously. They'll figure it out eventually, I suppose, because they'll contact all of us kids and interrogate until someone (me) cracks.

I hope they don't figure it out until I'm able to do it a couple of times.

I emailed the store, leaving my phone number at work. The owner called me abotu 10 minutes later (total aside, but I knew it was him because he actually pronounced my last name correctly. I swear no one outside of a 50 mile area in MN ever does, so it was exciting.), and I explained to him that the gift had to be anonymous. My parents refuse to understand the meaning of the word gift and would have tried to pay me back.

One credit card transaction later, and my parents are getting a reasonable amount of gift certificates.

I originally sent them a Wal-Mart gift card, but I suspect they thought it was junk mail and tossed it out. Heh.

:-( That happened to me once. Some friends of mine sent me a gift certificate to a gardening catalog. It was a place where you could buy seeds and bugs (yes, good bugs for your garden and things like that). The gift certificate was sent in a package with a catalog. I'd never heard of this place and knew nothing about it, so I just thought it was junk mail and threw the whole thing away. *g* I think I did that twice before they finally had to tell me about it and spoil the surprise so I wouldn't do it again. *g*

That's too bad about the wasted Walmart card, though. :-(
