Holy smokin' bullwinkle!

Last week, I checked the airfare for Toronto in July but didn't purchase tickets because I'm still on the fence about how long I'm going to be there. Today, I checked the airfare for Toronto in July and it's gone up over $150! I die.
I hate the airlines. For the amount we're charged nowadays and the lack of any fringe benefits (hello, don't even get a bag of dry pretzels anymore and if we want food we have to pay at least 3 times the actual value of said food), I'm starting to really become bitter. Yeah, yeah, financial straits...
Totally different subject, I happened to have the TV on NBC last night and heard them announce the amazing, stellar, "you should all be soooooo grateful for this" news that starting NEXT week, Medium's back on the air with new episodes. Not just this, but FIVE new episodes in a row!!1!1!
Aren't we just such lucky slobs that the network is finally going to do what it's supposed to do and frigging air their show?
I don't know when this trend of breaking up a season started, but it annoys the piss out of me. How on earth do networks retain current viewers and gain new when they're constantly yanking their shows for massive hiatuses in the middle of the season? If I don't see a new show week after week after week, I tend to first forget to check and then forget about the show entirely.
Bah.
I've got a case of the Mondays and a precurser for Girl Thing, in case that wasn't obvious.

Date: 2006-04-10 01:01 pm (UTC)Sheesh... finally! I've missed Medium. And yeah, I agree about the broken seasons being extremely annoying. I would rather the seasons were shorter and more compact than that they last from August to May and have a month off after every handful of episodes! 24 does it right - the season lasts from January to May, and we get all of the episodes without a break.
They should do it here like they do it in Britain - show a full season of a show straight through, and then move on to another show in that time slot for the rest of the year. You get twice as many shows and no reruns!

Date: 2006-04-10 03:31 pm (UTC)I also don't like the way they're breaking up seasons on TV now. I don't mind it quite as much with SG-1 because I understood why. I hate when The N does it with Degrassi, though. It sucks big time because there's no real reason for it that I can see. I'm also not liking the trend of not showing reruns that started a few years ago when they stopped showing NYPD Blue a second time. If you missed it for whatever reason, tough crap. And when those episodes (NYPD Blue) go into syndication, they are edited the first time through. (One cable channel edited for time, the other for content and language. Both sucked.) And they only just released season 3 on DVD. It may be years before I finally see the episodes that I missed from seasons 8 - 12 (of which there were a few).
Girl Thing sucks. I am so ready for it to be over for me.

Date: 2006-04-10 03:43 pm (UTC)That is pretty crappy. I guess I hadn't noticed the no rerun phenomenon. Some shows I will always watch, even if they're on a rerun break - CSI for one. Other shows, though, do just get forgotten not because I don't enjoy them, but because I'm not fanatical about it. Last Monday, for example, it was 10:30 before I realized Medium was (supposed) to be on...I wouldn't have forgotten if they hadn't stopped airing it for no good reason whatsoever.
It's like all network execs have ADD or something.

Date: 2006-04-11 03:31 am (UTC)As to Medium, I have officially given up on it. And I've decided to not watch Lost next season, I'll wait for the DVDs and see if I can rent them or borrow them from someone when season 3 comes out and have a marathon watching session one weekend. I'm just fed up of the on again/off again scenario. In any case, I have enough stuff to keep me occupied for several months, like the whole set of Xena DVDs which I'm getting anxious to rewatch, and the extended versions of Lord of the Rings. Who needs first run TV shows anyways.

Date: 2006-04-11 08:50 am (UTC)Maybe? I suppose there's always a chance, but I heard airfare prices were going to skyrocket this summer - and evidence tells me that's true. The tickets have gone up another $30 since yesterday. So now it comes down to me trying to decide if I can take the pressure and wait it out in hopes of a better fare. That could be disastrous. As they stand now, though, I won't be spending more time in Toronto than con time. I can't afford a hotel room by myself for any extra days. Ouch.

I'm close with Medium. I love Joe and Bridget, but have to admit I'm not overly fond of the main character. And Lost lost me sometime during the course of this year, both because of scheduling and because of plot.
