The kindness of strangers II
Mar. 25th, 2013 04:39 pmI've been really fretting about the cost of taking LWC to the computer doctor - charges for services were estimated to fall between $200 and $300. Today, I went to go collect my data (I have an online backup, but it's pants - never again will I try those services; nearly impossible to retrieve it.) and you know what the charge was?
$32.50.
/falls down
He said he couldn't charge me for being unable to do anything about my problem. I could have hugged him.
Also, I called tech support to get a VPN for my remote connection. Windows 8 is apparently already notorious for not playing nice, at least the home version. Which is plain stupid, since if you're remotely connecting, you've got a good chance of connecting from home unless you work for a place swank enough to have ample company hardware. Anyway, in the midst of the session, I told him to hold on because I had a phone in one hand and a cat draped over the other arm. Wherein he proceeded to tell me that dogs were better than cats.
I love dogs. I love cats. I'd say they're equal, but different.
