If a single occupancy bathroom in a residential-type building has the door closed, do you assume it's empty? I had a sitcom on last night, during the course of which a kid playing with Mr. Johnson kept getting walked in on in the bathroom. People just barged right on in, no knocking or even pausing to question why the door was shut all the way. At home on my loveseat, I thought to myself, "Who in his/her right mind would just barrel into any room that has a closed door, let alone the bathroom?" I really didn't why anyone would do this.

Ah, foreshadowing.

Most of the bathrooms here at work I do lock when I enter them. One because it swings open easily and another because it's in a high-traffic area. One, though, I never lock. I don't know why. Perhaps it's because the door sticks and you have to give it a good push to shut it, so in theory if you approach the bathroom and see it's shut all the way it means there's someone in there. Perhaps it's because growing up I never had a lock on the bathroom door, and there were frequently 3 or more people in there at any given time anyway, so who really cares? Perhaps it's because at home I don't even shut the bathroom door.

My logic is faulty, and I realize that. I realize it more because someone just barged in on me.

LOL, whoops.

While I know that was all my responsibility, it still boggles my mind that people even try to enter a non-public bathroom that has a closed door.

There always seems to be this kind of house, if not on every block, then in every neighborhood. When I was younger (I won't say a kid, because it wasn't that long ago that I last did this), my brother and sister and I would drive around the countryside looking for empty farmhouses to explore. There were lots of them. There is something very creepy about exploring homes that have been abandoned for a long time. We used to freak the crap out of each other, our nerves making us jump at the slightest noise. I digress. This house reminds me of those times.

Ah, digital enhancements. I like the original shot, but somehow tweaking the colour really shows the ramshackle, abandoned feeling of the place, doesn't it?
