*sigh*

Believe it or not, I'm not talking about sunless tanner. You know how sometimes you get a white streak or two of deodorant on your shirt? Lately I've been using a cocoa butter/shea butter mixture as my daily moisturizer. It's nice and keeps my skin from itching all day...however, it tends to get on my clothes. Usually it's not that noticable, but today my arm caught on my shirt as I put it on, folded the material over and I ended up with two heavy streaks right over my left breast. I figured I'd wash it out a bit and it would be fine.

Not fine. I just looked in the mirror and the streaks are alive and kicking. Ack. I'd survive the day, except I have a meeting at 3:30 with a bunch of chauvinist men, who I'm sure will make comment.

As part of the package when switching P&C/Liability insurance, the new carrier will re-appraise all the properties. Quite an undertaking for an organization like this, as you can imagine, what with churches being scattered across western Washington.

The insurance company, lacking the manpower for such a task, has contracted with a third party. As expected, phone calls started coming in to verify that this was all on the up-and-up. We'll just forget that all congregations received a head's up from myself and from the insurance company that this would be happening.

So where's the racism in this story? There are separate appraisers for separate regions. The appraiser in Seattle proper and its suburbs is named Mr. Shultz and he's got no accent. The appraiser for the southern regions is named Mr. Tran and he's got a mild accent. Not one single person has called to make sure this wasn't hinky when Mr. Shultz was the assigned appraiser. EVERY single congregation called when it was Mr. Tran. It wouldn't have bothered me if it were just one congregation verifying Mr. Tran's right to appraise their property, but EVERY one?

What is it about Mr. Tran that makes people question him? Or, rather, what is it about people that make them question him?

If someone suddenly stops talking to you and you honestly have no idea why, what do you do? If you ask them what you did, you're an idiot for not knowing...or you're an idiot because you did nothing, they're just busy.

You can't apologize for something you don't even know you did.

This has always tripped me up - I'm kind of an opinionated person (kind of?! Ha!), so sometimes what I say could offend. I'm just usually aware that what I've said has probably offended, so on those rare occasions where I'm at a total loss I end up just feeling hurt and confused.
