My dad was worried that what he was feeling wasn't normal. I told him there's no one way to grieve, or reinforced that as he already knows this, and that it's all normal. I hope he'll allow himself to do it without repressing it as stubborn midwestern men can tend to do. So many times I caught him kind of just sitting there looking completely lost.
