SPN: 99 Problems

Nothing coherent to say. Liked some bits, hated others. Bullet points, not in chronological order because my brain does not work in a straight line.
Nice opening sequence, though I have to wonder if the writers do not remember that Pastor Jim was in Blue Earth (hah, I ficced that town!) at the time of his demise. I suppose the guys wouldn't know that, but it seemed weird because I know that. They did say Blue Earth, right? Upstairs People were running the shower and the noise is ridiculous down here in my cave so sometimes I can't hear the telly.
Knew something had to be up with the three word exorcism. Knew even more was up when creepy prophet girl hit the screen.
The misogynistic overtones were bad in this episode, partly due to the particular MotW, but really more bothersome than usual. "On a good day you get to kill a whore." Jesus, did they actually script that? Damn it.
I hate seeing Dean so dead inside. It's more than loss of hope. He really doesn't care ... except when it's someone he's got some weird emotional bond with like Dylan. Devon? Whatever the Winchester-wannabe boy's name was. Sometimes it's hard to track Dean, because one minute he's all "we're going to die anyway!" and the next he's lamenting the boy getting killed.
Yay, Sam laying it out there, or trying to. Damn straight Dean's not the only one white-knuckling it. Annnnd cue Dean walking away "to get some air" rather than, I dunno, talking to his brother. Awesome how he gets to do that and it's cool, but if Sam does it he's a terrible brother. Really. I hope somewhere deep down Dean realizes the double standard.
Castiel drunk. Hmm. Dollars to doughnuts I do not find that nearly as endearing as 99% of fandom. ;) Still a fair weather God fan, that one. "Sam's an abomination." Yeah, nice. I'm sure it's been a real treat for Sam to have to hear that in various ways for months.
Hmm, not particularly pleased that Sam trying to pull Dean out of his damned funk gets shut down, but a challenge from a monster does the trick just like a snap of the fingers. *sigh, grumble, stupid show, grumble*
Disturbing how easily people are convinced the evil stuff they are doing is good. Fundamentalist compound indeed. (Yes, yes, cue Sam drinking demon blood, etc.)
Sooo, all this time Dean kind of holds Sam leaving him and lying and shit as a personal betrayal and then he ... does the same thing. SPN's never been subtle with the role reversal, but this is all Sam trying to hold it together and Dean running in an almost perfect mirror to last year. And the result, I'm afraid, will be just as bad. I want to shake Dean hard for just running out on Sam like that.
The ending was a giant WTF to me. Soooo, all these years Dean's been harboring these white picket fantasies with Lisa "she bends like Gumby" whatever her name is? Okay, I can buy that but it's a bit ... what? He's going to do the deed, and the person he chooses his schmaltzy farewell with is random one-night stand (yes, yes, Ben is Dean's kid, I know. Cut me some slack. I'm about the brothers.)? Contrived.
Also: Awwww, puppy on my profile. So fluffy! Thank you,
ldyanne!
