Hmmm, not quite sure what to think. Loved most of it, but
Not because I don't think it's totally appropriate for the show to have the good side finally represented, but it has the potential to turn schlocky pretty fast if they're not careful, you know? LOL, plus it's bad enough there's freaking wing!fic in fandom already. Oy, that's only gonna get worse. ;)
Dude, Dean dug himself out? That's messed up. *hugs him tight* I think he might remember more than he's letting on. More than they're showing us. I really liked that the first few minutes were without dialogue. Really effective.
I'll admit, they had me fooled with the Red Right Hand on his shoulder. C'mon, am I the only one so gullible?
Aw, Bobby. After all the trying to kill Dean was done, that little broken noise he makes. Awwwwwww. Dang, I love Bobby. I love, btw, that they actually showed that reaction from him, and from Sam (it took suspiciously less time for Sam to accept it...). Because it's freaky for someone to dig like Lazarus. Hee hee. Forgive me. It appears to be a Nick Cave kind of night.
I figured out the girl was Ruby as soon as she opened the door. Don't know why. Don't think I like her in this skin, either. If anything, I like her less. Maybe it's because I don't want her messing with Sam. Leave my Sam alone! It also kind of grosses me out that they've implied Sam/Ruby, even if it didn't look believeable.*
*ETA: This squicks me because I still cannot reconcile Sam being okay with Ruby walking around with some poor innocent girl's body, let alone want to boink her. EW. If that's the case, he's already gone dark side. For now I'm going with they meant to imply only that Ruby and Sam were in that room together for convenience's sake, and that maybe, hopefully, god-I-hope Ruby's going to be in multiple hosts.
Oh, boys, still lying to each other. Tsk. I really think they ought to have learned this lesson by now, though I do wonder if angel dude (no idea how to spell the name) would have shown if Sam had been with Dean and Bobby. Dramatic tension at the end would have been better if they'd made the angel dude be more specific. Of course, saying "we need you to stop your brother" (conjecture only, as I'm spoiler-free...) would have given away the whole kit and kaboodle.
I don't get why no demons have seen anything like an angel, or what an angel can do. Or why it took four months for God or whatever decided to haul Dean out. If they did because Sam's traveling down a slippery slope, then couldn't they have prevented that slippery slope by getting Dean out toot sweet?
On the Sam issue - it's awesome that he thinks he's doing good things, but I don't think he realizes how slippery a path he's on. It's cool he's found a way to kill demons without necessarily killing the host, but a few nudges and he could be doing some BAD things. The fact that he and Ruby are chummy-chums makes me nervous. The last meaningful interaction we saw them have was Ruby being rather awful to Dean and refusing to do pretty much anything, wasn't it?
Hmmmm.
Need to sleep on it, I think. Also, a word to Kripke: please to be learning how to write and treat your female characters. Kthanxbai.
Also, Wedge Antilles? Oh, Sam. I heart you.

Date: 2008-09-20 04:18 am (UTC)I'm now pretending she had a flash of surprise/recognition when she opened the door and the one night stand shtick was all an act so Dean and Bobby didn't figure it out. I'm really skeptical that we'll be able to take much of anything Sam says at face value anymore. That makes me sad and queasy on the one hand but semi-excited on the other.
Oh, boys. Back together for a few hours and they're already fucking it up. ;)
PS - did you note how Dean's schlepping around in Sam's gigantic clothes?

That would have worked if she wasn't in her undies - and honestly who opens the door to the Pizza delivery person like that? Kripke and co really don't understand the first thing about women does he? *groan* And the gay line just didn't make sense if that was supposed to be Ruby, but since when have ANY of their gay lines actually been relevant to the situation, so perhaps I'm looking for sense that isn't there.
So cute seeing Dean in Sam's clothes, that was realistic...but I do wonder what happened to the leather jacket? Sammy still has it somewhere doesn't he? Eeek, now you've got me all worried.
What worries me most about the Sam stuff is what has always worried me about Sam story lines - it all happens OFF screen, I don't know why that is. Yeah, I get they're keeping secrets from each other, but most of the Sam stuff is a secret to us too.
I'm still happier about the way this looks to be going though, I like the kind of opposition of sides in the make-up of Sam and Dean - that each have been chosen sort of on the opposite to what you might expect.
Brash, smart mouthed Dean working for god, while the quieter more rational of the two is being drawn into devil's work - I kind of like the turning on it's head thing - I haven't been so pleased with an episode for a long time and that feels really good. :))

Date: 2008-09-20 04:40 pm (UTC)I'm also pretending she was wearing jeans. ;) Just kidding. You're right, of course, the undies thing makes NO sense - I've seen this repeatedly in series one of Primeval, too. The hot girl trounces around in her underwear all the time. Me: WTF? Even if I were a tiny little thing, I'd still put some goddamned clothes on before I answered the door!
The gay lines now all come off as "ooh, let's see if we can squeeze a gay line in here!" to me, which it contrived at best and stupid at worst.

I think that's meant to be building a mystery. Frankly, if they were going to do a switcheroo, I think it would have been nice for us to be in the dark with Dean's stuff this time rather than Sam's. Castiel could have knocked Bobby out, still had interaction with Dean but not revealed his status as God's messenger. We'd have been left wondering just what the heck is going on, but now we know Dean's been chosen for some greater good.
Though I'm still thinking there's a way for it all to be some ruse for Satan or something. It probably won't be, but wouldn't it be interesting to think Dean's fighting for good, only to learn that he's actually been touched by the red right hand of Satan? Hmmm.

Date: 2008-09-20 07:52 pm (UTC)Oh that does sound good, I'm always in for double crosses and switcheroonies and it is kind of sudden for god to finally make an appearance and lay all his cards on the table - but there again would he be god's messenger if he was lying? Hmmmmm...curious indeed.
I keep on getting that Spanish Train song in my head...the one that goes ""and far away in some recess, the lord and the devil are now playing chess, the devil still cheats and wins more souls and as for the lord? Well he's just doing his best...""
Games like this always seem weighted in the devil's favour as the dirtier you play, the more likely you are to win...so I really don't know HOW Kripke is gonna get out of this. **crosses fingers and toes he's got something good cooked up**

Date: 2008-09-20 09:33 pm (UTC)It's very sudden indeed. I highly doubt we'll find out Castiel is anyone but who he says he is, but it'd be so interesting. Poor Dean, though, that would totally break him - to be start believing in good after 24 years of experiencing only bad...and then finding out the good isn't so at all. I mean, in HotH that wee moment of "what if God's real" was far, far, far less direct a showing by God than sending a bona fide angel. So Dean's got to be suspicious.
Gah. I can't wait for next week. I think I have an idea about the plot and can't wait to see if I'm right. Oh, to be deliciously unspoiled!
