The first ten minutes (well,after the overly-histronic mother/daughter yelling scene), I was sort of starting to like Jo...then the whole thing just fell apart when everything became All About Jo.
You're absolutely right about the Roadhouse--if Ellen didn't want her daughter in the biz, the simple thing would have been to sell the place and move. You can't tell me that she wouldn't make a better living (and spend just as much time with her daughter) managing an Olive Garden or something. I think the whole inconsistancy of Ellen-as-a-parent-substitute vs. Ellen-who-hates-John-and-distrusts-his-sons was the final nail in the coffin of the whole Roadhouse premise.
