About 10 years ago, I had about a 3 month period where no matter what I ate, I'd get sick. It was only really bad for about 1 month, and it was enough to make me lose a pretty decent chunk of weight. I never figured out what caused it.
I wonder if these things go in cycles? For the past 2 weeks, food just does not agree with me. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't get hungry, but I'm usually starving and so I eat. And then I feel like crap. Blech.

Date: 2006-09-18 06:54 am (UTC)The worst time I remember was just about four or five years ago. It lasted a couple of weeks really bad and then would come and go every couple of weeks for about a year. When it was at its worst, it didn't matter what I ate, whether it was the blandest food or a piece of fruit or anything. I could eat just one cracker and then feel really sick for hours or even days after. :-(
And it was the same thing: I'd be starving, so I'd eat something, and then I'd feel sick shortly after. Or even when I was feeling sick, it would go away for an hour or so, I'd feel so hungry, and then I'd feel sick again--whether I ate anything or not sometimes. I would alternate between being starving/shaky from hunger to feeling extremely nauseated and/or having icky tummy.
I still get this. I am still unsure what causes it. Even over the last couple of years, I often don't eat at all during the day if I know I have to go to the dentist or something like that. On days when I had to take Daniel to the teen group, I just wouldn't eat at all because I was afraid I'd feel sick if I did, because it was happening so often. Sometimes that would backfire, though, and I'd either feel sick from not eating or just feel generally sick anyway.
I think that at least some of the time, it may be related to IBS, if that's what I have. I don't know. Right now, I'm not feeling this quite so bad--just for the last couple of months, but still...it comes and goes at odd times.

Date: 2006-09-18 11:59 am (UTC)I went through a ton of testing, and nothing. Every once in a while I still have periods where meat makes me ill, especially red meat. I just avoid the stuff I can't handle, and it all works out well. But man, I'd love to know what caused it, and if it will ever go away completely. Although I must admit to not missing black tea all that much. Having a nice fettucini alfredo in a restaurant is something I occassionally dream of, though.

Date: 2006-09-18 04:49 pm (UTC)Of course, I'm the person who ran out of most of my money on day 2 of a week long trip to London, ate only 2 biscuits and a Dr. Pepper every day and walked everywhere...and didn't lose a pound. I wasn't trying, but under those circumstances, you'd think...
