I couldn't bring myself to watch. I did, however, accidentally jump back to Sci Fi (watched Night Stalker earlier - not a terrible show, just a victim of poor placement when it originally aired) to see the previews for next week, so my guess is this episode was the set-up to "Vala's soooooo important and vital and she's what's central to all things Stargate SG-1 now!"
I didn't see the previews because Tivo usually cuts them off. They're probably at the beginning of SGA, but if so, I must have skipped over them.
I believe you surmised correctly, though. I wrote a comment to you over at gate_crashers, though it contains spoilers for this episode. Let's just say it was very nauseating. *g* Well, at least for me.
