I was going to have a turkey wrap for dinner, except the organic wheat/corn tortillas I had left were moldy (seriously, how is one person supposed to make it through a whole package without this happening?) And I was out of milk, too.

So I headed to the store for bread-like substance and milk.

I'm going to have to budget a lot more time to grocery shopping from now on. On a whim, I flipped the bread over and read the ingredients. Even bread has high fructose corn syrup in it? Damnit, it never once dawned on me to look for it there. I'll bet there are a ton of other products I'm buying, thinking there couldn't possibly be any of that stuff in them. Quite a similar story with soy.

do you have Martin's Potato bread where you live? It doesn't have HFC in it.

Ingredients-checking is the bane of my existence. TJ's is great for avoiding soy on a lot of products I use. Otherwise, it's just crazy.

Yeah, there are food "allergies" and food "sensitivities" - the latter of which can mean virtually anything. Just that the food doesn't work well for you in some way.

TJ has a fantastic array of snack foods as well as better-quality stuff that's soy-free. Milk chocolate bars, chips and crackers, and this amazing mousse cake that's supposedly 250 calories per serving, but I make little slices out of it that I figure are 100, and it's a really rich, soy-free, low-cal dessert (and it's just regular chocolate - no wacky substitute stuff). It's not meant to be a healty dessert, I just found it can be, since I can't totally shake the dessert/chocolate habit.

I've got high fructose corn syrup in my bran flakes. :(

It's in some brands of yogurt.

If stuff is supposed to be healthy, then why are they using high fructose corn syrup?

I'm very lucky here. There is a bread bakery not far from here that bakes bread with freshly ground flour (just ground that day) and uses no oils or any other "bad stuff" in the bread. Some breads have milk in them (which we can't have), but the whole wheat and 9-grain breads don't.
