Dog Tales

There's a couple of two year old pups - one full doxie, one mixed with Jack Russel terrier. I frequently take the dogs over to the office to say hello because socialization is important. Well, the little mix, Drake, had some blood on one of his paws, so to try to see what the issue was, I held onto him while someone else tried to look at his feet.

The problem is neither dog has any leash training and are quite terrified about the getting on and getting off. And Drake, well, he goes into full panic mode if the leash gets a little twisted up. Which it did because he was wriggling like mad. Long story short, he wriggled himself out of the leash, and then out of my arms.

I don't know if you've ever been responsible for an animal and that animal goes and takes off on you, but holy smokes was I in a frenzy. He just would NOT stop running. Fortunately, he ran in circles and would come back if called ... but not stop running. I had two other people trying to catch him as he passed, but he was lightning! I guess that's the JR in him!

After much shouting, lunging, chasing and heart attacks, when he ran by me I somehow managed to lasso him with the leash. It was a total fluke and everyone around me started laughing with amazement.

I still don't know how I managed it, but all's well that ends well! Whew. It's one thing to be amused by animal control chasing down an escapee and a completely different thing to be the one chasing!

Oh, and there's a senior Papillion/King Charles mix who has been totally shut down. Won't look you in the eye, doesn't want to be pet, etc. She breaks my heart. Well, today I saw her being walked by a fellow and she was jumping, barking, frolicking and generally being Ms. Personality. I can only assume a woman treated her ill, because she does not like any of the ladies who want to befriend her - including me. She started growling at me, then barking her head off. Strange as it seems, I was happy to get the negative emotion after seeing NO emotion before.

In other news, colleague still hasn't quit so either she was bluffing or somehow the religious exemption worked. Another colleague, just hired, has yet to make it a full week of work since her hire a month ago due to health issues. If SHE washes out I will go for that job even though I'm not super keen on it - that's how much I hate my current job. Got told earlier this week not to bring up issues to other workers because "it hurts their feelings". That's right. Can't address issues, so those issues will just keep happening. That's preferable to someone being unable to take any kind of inquiry about her work. I. Just. Can't.
