It's time for androgyny!

There was a woman (I think) on the bus last night that I swear looked just like the old SNL character, Pat. She spoke like Pat. She held her body in that weird stiff way Pat did.

It was uncanny, I tell you. I wish I'd had my camera.

Heh. All I've done pretty much all day is listen to music, sometimes seeking it out myself and sometimes clicking on "related songs" on imeem. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] el1ie, but your vid talk kind of spawned it, I think.

Gomez is a band I've liked for a while, but for some reason I don't own anything of theirs. I must remedy that. Have a listen to How We Operate and tell me it's not awesome. (Don't really do tell me that, I'll cry.)

Then of course there's Alice In Chains' We Die Young. Scary's on the wall...a guy I work with used to live down the hall from the guys in AiC, back when, y'know, all of them were alive and super grungy.

Some songs still make me shiver the very same way they did the first time I ever heard them, like Starsailor's Good Souls or The Veils' The Valleys of New Orleans, which is so damned mopey I can hardly take it.

Others just make me smile, no matter what. Devotchka wailing out You Love Me, for one.

I've also been re-submerging in music they used to use in Supernatural and other songs in the genre. I started pondering whether or not a memo was issued ordering all bands who wanted commercial success in the 1970s to use more cowbell. Seriously, I thought the SNL Ferrell/Walken skit was poking fun of BOC only, but not so much.

Take Hair of the Dog for example. Awesome song. FULL of cowbell.

I think maybe The Chambers Brothers started it all with Time Has Come Today, closely followed by The Rolling Stones' Honky Tonk Woman. It's a tight race, filled with cowbell.

Let's also not forget We're an American Band. They'd be so unamerican if there wasn't cowbell in the song! Will the good times never end? Apparently not, because even Little Willy got into the cowbell action!

My favorite cowbell song will always and forever be BOC, though. Even without the hilarious skit or the chilling scenes from SPN coloring my memory, (Don't Fear) The Reaper is just a sweet, sweet song.
