Ah, Legacy.

I never know if I love it or hate it. It's riddled with plot holes and bad science, but I have to admit the first 30 minutes or so really keep my interest. Those minutes are filled with creepiness, awesome Jack and Daniel moments, confusion about what's happening with Daniel (and I have to admit I'm really impressed with MS on the whole going nuts thing).

Where it falls apart for me is the last 12 minutes or so. It has always seemed to me that the production crew realized "Oh, *bleep*, we've got to wrap this up, people!" and then proceeded to rush everything. And, because we've already established *what's* happening, I personally feel very little when it comes to Jack and Janet going nuts. I also feel the actors weren't given much to work with and it shows. (Though it is very humorous to watch them in fast forward - it's like super fast forward, as they were already in an accelerated decline. Wheee!) What, both Jack and Janet are holding latent fears about Sam's time as a Tok'ra? ::rolls eyes:: Janet suddenly feels the need to strip off while Jack just kind of twitches off in the distance? Boo. Dr. Warner doesn't have a functioning brain cell for the dodgy science, but an hallucinating Janet does?

So, the good:

Daniel looking all sweet and crazy.
Jack's hair.
Sam's hair.
White scrubs!
The VIP room scene, and that nifty effect of showing something moving under Daniel's skin.
The infirmary scene.
Daniel talking with McKenzie.
Daniel managing to not call everyone doubting Thomases when he gives his, y'know, accurate theory.

The bad:

Everyone's quick assumption that the problem was with Daniel, not something else: helllllooooo, traveling to other worlds, been bit before...why bother looking into that, when we can just lock the dude up and medicate him into a stupor?

Jack and Janet going crazy.
The miracle of the naquadah genetic marker or whatever.
Too quick resolution.
Poor Teal'c kind of just shoved into the infirmary (though he does get the last word, eh?).

So many unanswered questions:

Why was the door disabled from the inside? It's not like the Linvris were going nuts, and once the Goa'uld died, the hosts could have left.

Uh, why was one of the little buggers still hanging out in the hand device when later they showed all of them breaking out and going into Jack, Janet and Sam? It stands to reason that last slug thing would have jumped into a Linvris, giving it a double dose.

Why is Dr. Warner employed there?

Are the only ones capable of connecting the dots the ones suffering a Machello-induced bout of insanity? Because if so, that's just scary.

Soooo, the folks at Area 52 just logged stuff in, they didn't actually check anything out, right, for if they had then someone else would have fallen victim.

Okay, I have to stop asking questions! I really did like the first 3/4ths of the episode, I swear.

On another plus side, this episode spawned lots of fanfiction. Some much like the first 3/4ths of the episode and some...like the last 1/4th of the episode. I've always liked ELG's The Wine of Dionysus (though, honestly, the story could have been told with far fewer words and pages) and Yum@'s Red Harvest.
