The First Six
Jan. 18th, 2015 10:28 amAh, the first six Trixie Belden books were just the best. I'd forgotten how much I OTPed Trixie and Jim and why, but it all came back with great plots and surprisingly sharp dialogue. These kids were bright and funny, highly engaging.
Then the authors changed and book seven has an obviously different tone. Suddenly, every character needs a mini-bio, a reintroduction to them as if we haven't picked up any of the books before. I get why that technique is employed, I simply hate it. And suddenly in book seven Trixie is concerned about her waist size, shopping and make-up. I have a feeling I won't read through these next ten as quickly.
Related: Abe LOVES the bookmark I use, a gift I got from LdyAnne. He loves it so much so that I found my book on the floor this morning, sans bookmark. It, like the turkey pepperoni pack he stole earlier this week, has vanished into thin air and I, I'm afraid, am no Trixie Belden. I'll never see it again.
ETA: Proven wrong! Bookmark found. Pepperoni still AWOL.
