Personally?

I think that in a discussion about Vala on Stargate when someone brings up the previous misdeeds of any member of SG-1 in comparison to her actions, the debate is then forfeit just like that one rule about invoking Nazism.

Because it's just insane.

And one has nothing to do with the other.

*snort*

Right on.

Wow. You just summed it up so well on a different post. Kudos.

1. Yes.

2. ROFL!

No, she's not like the others. I quit hoping for good episodes a long time ago. These days, I only hope for unboring ones. :) It makes narrations a lot more fun, and I got that more in season 9 than I did in the previous 2 seasons.

I wonder what would have happened if Vala had joined up in season 7 or 8?

Since the Nazi thing is Godwin's Law, we should dub this one "Carrie's Law." :)

And yes, I tend to agree with you. Every character has their flaws and their own history and their own misdeeds... and none of them have anything to do with Vala. I can see making comparisons with Teal'c, because they were both slaves to the Goa'uld, but only up to the point where she was freed from Qetesh. Everything she did after that, she did of her own free will.

And since we've already seen what we've seen, she can't ever BE accepted just like the others to some of us.

I know the writer's plans. It involves a "Jedi hand wave" and if that doesn't work, Plan B involves ignoring the issue and ignoring any fans who question it.

That would be the ultimate Lucas ripo-- I mean, "hommage" on the show then, wouldn't it? ;-)

They've been watching the DVDs again. ;)

It could be worse, they could get the idea to change canon completely, a la Lucas... um... I'd better not say anything else.

bwhahaaha I love your icon Nialla, sadly appropriate.

And do be quiet about the Jedi hand wave, the PTBs might somehow end up getting ideas that would be very bad. Granted most recent eps make it easier find cannon fodder for the breadbox eps.

So are you saying that people try to defend Vala's actions, saying she's okay and should be all accepted, by bringing up previous misdeeds of core SG-1? ::confused which obviously means I need more chocolate::

But then I'm the person who got all annoyed b/c the new season promo I saw the other night had mostly Mitchell, Vala and Landry in it. If i knew how to do captures I'd make a "real" promo.

:)

No problems. Hey, if you want a token Vala fan to beat up on every now and again, feel free. I'm perfectly willing to play voodoo doll for you. Just warn me in advance that you're going to, so I don't think you hate me or anything. :)

And to help you out... I've got an icon for just such a purpose. Let it loose. I promise I won't even stomp away or yell at you.

*snort* apples & oranges. True, sg-1 are no angels but we've, in a sense, lived through that past & know what happened. With Vala she told the story of her past. Big difference.

Of course its about telling us everything & shoving down our throats when it comes to new characters instead of doing, oh, the creative thing & letting us discover the character's worth over time in relation to the true stars of the show.

I'm tellin' ya, it's not SG-1 anymore. It's All About the Newbies. (Aren't they pretty and shiny and FUN?)

EX-ACTLY. sheesh, didn't learn a thing from the whole JQ thing. Its also about aren't they pretty & shiny & fun and they're "better" because they look like those people on some other show. Thats what burns me about it, like the character credibility should carry over to SG1 or something. I certainly have not watched, or tried to watch, for 9 years because of those other people.

::wanders off still grumbling::
(friday nights are good for classic sg1 dvd nights you know)

When I read your references to threads elsewhere, I want to read the discussion that sparked them so that I'm not out of the loop. Then I think about it and remember how much happier I am to be ignorant on this topic.

I've managed to miss the promos, but somehow I'm not surprised to hear they feature the new. Sci Fi has always done silly promos and they often choose what I think of as the wrong tactic.

[identity profile] captain-tiv.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
You mean they haven't changed canon already?

I'm not getting all my memos!

Yep. Some do.

Me, I find Vala entertaining and dynamic mostly due to the acting of Claudia Black. That doesn't absolve Vala of her crimes anymore than it would anyone else. She's done some pretty bad things that she's never had to pay for (yes, a comparison to other SG1 members could be inserted here).

Maybe it's human nature to say, "This person did that, oh, but by comparson so-and-so did this and wasn't punished for it?" I don't know. Normally, when I get pissed at a character, I'm pissed at that character for that reason regardless of what the other characters have done or what the consequences were.

Unfortunately, I think more comparisons will be heard. We've got another season coming.
