Enigma
Yeah, I skipped Singularity. I don't know why, but I just couldn't be bothered with that episode. It had nice moments, but I...I've never really liked it much. So, on to this one. ;)
It was a noteless viewing in my home, I don't know about anyone else. I just can't take my eyes off the screen to write anything down during some episodes, it seems, and Enigma is one of them. In other words, this is going to be random.
How anyone can watch the episode and not just want to eat Daniel up with a spoon is beyond me. I mean, I was already well on my way to loving him before, but...those earnest eyes, the impassioned speeches. Daniel lurve. (As a total off topic side, this is why I love Sam in Supernatural - he's the same in this way. I need to find a real boy who's like this, I think.)
I have often wondered why SG1 didn't suffer more immediate effects from the volcanic ash, heat and toxins. If the Tollan were dead and dying, it had to be hellish on that planet, no? Ah, well, for the sake of the story I can overlook it. ;)
Omac is quite a piece of work, isn't he? Arrogant SOB...I love him. I don't understand him just like SG1 and Hammond don't, and yet there always seems to be more than just a jerkface behind his demeanor. We lowly Earth humans might be far behind the Tollan in some regards, but the Tollan clearly lost something along the way that we have them bested at - people skills. I think by the end there, even Omac found it in him to loosen up a little. Though, really, he should have trusted Daniel more readily. See note above about earnest eyes and impassioned speeches.
Sam and Narim, sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G. They were very cute together. I've always thought that. Narim was pretty dang sappy and schmoopy and all that stuff, and yet I honestly saw feelings shared between them. Did Sam get to keep that device? Part of me wishes she did, so that every once in a while Sam can Touch The Red Triangle, a phrase that struck me as quite dirty during this viewing. Hee hee. "Sorry, guys, I can't make movie night this week. I have to stay home and touch the red triangle."
Hammond rocks my world. "That wasn't a request, COLONEL, that was an *order*." Bless his heart, he really wants to do the right thing without bending the rules until they break, and he counts on SG1 to help him do that. Boy howdy, do they come through and prove that they're no slouches themselves.
Maybourne, that weasel. Nice introduction of the character, with a definite sense we've not seen the last of him. I was flabbergasted at the ease in which he orders the MPs to fire upon unarmed individuals. Now that's a nasty guy. And considering my woobie Daniel and Teal'c were both right in the line of fire...grrrr.
Love Daniel pretending he can't really hear Maybourne. Tee hee. That little gesture cracks me up. He might as well have stuck his thumbs in his ears, waggled his fingers and stuck his tongue out at Maybourne.
Was Jack honestly surprised to see Lya? It seemed to me as if he hadn't been briefed in full about Daniel's idea (to protect him?).
Daniel voted for the president? Uhm, I'm trying to recall time frames, but wouldn't Daniel have been on Abydos during the last presidental election?
I swear, it's always looked to me as though Lya is looking at Daniel and telling him to come right along with the Tollan. She's got a soft spot for him, methinks, especially since he's clearly learned (so have the rest of SG1, mind you).
Love the end shot. Daniel with that silly, glazed look on his face, the reiteration of the Nox phrase about being young, Jack grinning at seeing Daniel with that silly, glazed look on his face. The whole angle of the shot, with all of them standing there. Four as one. Nice.
*happy sigh*
I'm sure I missed tons. I might just have to watch it again. Or read this tag (heavily Daniel-centric, for those not inclined to enjoy that kind of story): Hell To Pay by Gatejunkie
