Just found out one of my brothers, one who's depressed and drinks far too heavily, has asked my sister B. to move in with her and her husband. She's due to have a baby, her first, in ten days.

I don't know why, but I just find that kind of wrong. She shouldn't have to worry about him too.

She'll do what's best, I think. J. asked me if he could come out here and live with me ages ago - I have a studio, fcol. Not gonna happen.

Oh, she so doesn't need that kind of stress. I know that family loyalty is important, but she can't help him and her baby will need all hter attention.

I hope she has the courage to say no.

I hope she does also. I know I would, but I think I'm one of the more upfront people in my family.

I'd tell him (politely, whatever the family dynamics are) to take a hike - go find somewhere else to live for a while. She really doesn't need that kind of crap. Not at this stage. If it's her first baby, she won't have ANY time for him, and you know how guys get when they feel the woman isn't paying them enough attention when they should By Rights be catered to.

And he's being particularly selfish/unthoughtful. WTF is he thinking?

I hope your brother-in-law and sister tell him he can't stay. It's a disaster in the making.

I don't think he was thinking, really. J.'s a peculiar sort, and there are few in the family that would be able to stand putting him up just based on personality. We're all grown ups, and he might be on the inside, but he only exhibits the immaturity when we gather for holidays and such.

I haven't heard from my sis yet. She's way nicer than I am, so I'm guessing she'll say yes. I told her to make the guidelines and conditions of his stay VERY clear if she does go through with it.
