SG1_lims - go vote

Go. Look at pretty SG-1 icons and vote for your favorites here.

Qualifications not needed. Trust me. I know not a thing about icon making, but I vote every week. Plus, it's amazing to see what people with talent produce. I'm green with envy. :)

ETA: You don't even really have to be an SG-1 fan.

Oh, that happens to me all the time. I'm sitting there going, "WHAT made someone pick THAT?" It doesn't say anything about what you know or don't know. Seriously.

Have you ever seen the houses that architects typically design for themselves? THey tend to be avant-garde, cold, and extremely adventurous with materials and layout. It's because they're bored with the standard; they live and breathe the standard every day. But their personal houses? They can do anything and it's often...ugly.

Why am I babbling about this? That's kind of how I feel about icons. Icon makers get bored with things and are out to have something new surprise them. And, well, sometimes what they come up with might be *interesting* and *different* but it's a lousy icon. I think that's why the icons at elite comms and the like tend to all look the same. All the icon makers in the group pat themselves on the back but you don't see people *using* those terribly clever icons. You know what I mean?

One reason I court non-makers so vigorously is that I want a diversity of opinion in voting. I think it keeps us relevant.

Mmmm, Ackles. Terrible name, lovely face.
Well, it starts with "Ack" but then it goes on and makes itself cute with the "les" -- reminds me of chuckles. :)

Yes, but I've even noticed the same type of icon in this project tend to get the most votes. Similar colouring, similar cropping, I don't know what it is.

I think you're seeing the effect of a loyal core of voters. As people are eliminated, a lot of them drop out of voting. We have a few folks such as you who vote every time. Beeej put out a call in her LJ, too, for additional voters. We've had at least 5 new-to-us voters since then and I can guarantee you their opinions have been running counter to the typical vote in the group.

I think if I could better diversify the voting pool beyond participants, most especially a problem as the round progresses, that we would see a different mix of winners based more on which group (icon makers vs. non) was better represented in any particular week rather than such a strong trend to sameness. One of the reasons I love the Alternates post so much is I'll make a handful of icons each time. One will be "LIMS worthy," that is, I like it and I think it's esoteric enough to be safe and then I'll make a bunch of icons I like but are too "pedestrian" or simple for LIMS.

FRACKLES?!?!?!? *shudder* That's just plain wrong.

They are absolutely welcome to stay and continue voting. Alas, most people choose not to. :( I've been trying to figure out how to convince folks to stick around. And yes, we did get a few votes from your request. Thank you.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness for my poor, shattered nerves. ;)
