I was looking for a dog and then I found a dog

and heaven knows I'm miserable now.

That's about it. All summed up with bastardized Smiths lyrics. I found the best dog ever at the shelter. She's the right size. She's smart. She's adorable. She's highly trainable. She doesn't much care for my cats, but we made rapid progress there - in four days. FOUR. She would have been so wonderful to keep with me forever. Why aren't I? Allergies. It's not the sniffly nose. It's not the itchy eyes. It's the major (MAJOR) migraine. I think that might eventually settle down, but how am I supposed to train with any consistency if I'm ill all the time?

The she in question is named Pita. She's on the sofa right now, snoozing. I am barely upright my head hurts so bad.

It's not the stress (well, that could contribute - I was a wreck yesterday), it's her. Literally, physically her. I hate this so much, but I cannot live with migraines this bad if I know the cure. Some of my friends are already judging me, I can tell, saying that they'd put up with a little ol' migraine to keep her.

Pita

I feel like a serious failure here. I totally love her to bits and she's already very attached to me (she chewed through her leash to come find me today when I had to go up front for a client visit - separation anxiety much?), but I really don't think compromising my own health is a great plan.

Also, so, so much respect for people who feel this way much more frequently than I do. Migraines are horrendous and if anyone tells you otherwise or poo-poos them as just a headache, wait till you have another one and then go find that person and puke on their shoes.

:( My headaches are bad enough with being migraines. I completely agree with you that compromising your health is a bad idea. Sometimes we don't realise that animals can be triggers for something like this until we're in the situation. That's nobodies fault.
