What a beautiful way to kick your muse into life! Loved this, really full of everything that seems to annoy me most about the show NOT showing us...if you see what I mean.

First, dealing with this Sam from the end of Mystery Spot - his memories from that time must be so real, horrendously hard to get kicked back into a reality where Dean is once again with him - show is going to ignore this isn't it? I really liked the way you used that as an instinctual switching that Sam has no control over, a learned response to danger from fighting on his own and a reaction he still doesn't quite understand himself. Dean also recognizes this as something different from the normal worries about Sam not being Sam and only Dean I think would see the nuances of a differently trained Sam and a Sam that's using powers or evil. That came over very strongly and was a very nice touch.

Second I loved the way Sam thinks about his father in this and worries about his inherited tendencies for revenge, worries that the darkness in him is all he has if Dean his light is gone. I liked that very much, how Sam knows he needs Dean more than anything, more that Dean will ever understand - especially after Kripke seems intent on kicking Dean's similarities to his father.

Third is the wonderful way you have of inserting the reader into each and every scene with clear descriptions that are not so overwritten as to leave little to the imagination - that's a skill you've always had and it's still very strong here.

Fourth is the description of Dean's running habits in boots and leather - that's absolutely true. I've always been annoyed that we never, ever see either brother practice any of their supposed skills and that's a shame but if I ever see Dean change into sweats and running shoes? I'll laugh my arse off because this description of yours? That's Dean!

So much more here that I haven't really touched on, but I'm just rambling now. I'm hoping the little muse sticks around though. :))

Thanks so much for sharing this one...
