Is it just me or are there more spiders around this fall than usual? I really hope their increased visible population doesn't mean we're going to have another intensely wet winter, because if we do I really am fucked. Pardon the French. I like my apartment, but basements aren't good in floods, yo! Last year, some poor woman got trapped in her basement, where she drowned.

Also, it's pretty cool outside this morning.

We've had issues with flies. Fruit flies went nuts for a couple of weeks, and then we got these great big flies that were twice the size of regular houseflies. I thought we'd been invaded by horseflies, except they didn't bite. And then suddenly they were gone. Must be the kooky weather. But if there's more flies, I'm betting there's more spiders.

I don't know what's up with the spider thing, but I've been overrun with them, too. Also earwigs. *shudder*

Well, I live pretty far away from you, but I've noticed fewer spiders this year--at least in my house. *g* I think it's more because we installed storm doors in the front and back last spring, though, so fewer bugs get in and so fewer spiders follow them.

We had a ton of earwigs one year, and I discovered that it was from leaving the outside lights on. I think there were more of them that year than other years, but they tended to be attracted to the lights at night, and once I started leaving the lights off, fewer came inside. (I don't know if this would help you, but I just thought I'd mention it. *g* I really hated those earwigs.)

I'd bet you're in Texas based on floods and spiders. Apparently Tawakoni state Park has a single web that runs for several acres, so maybe the spiders are a little frisky this year . . . probably because abundant rain, especially after drought, would mean abundant buggy prey. Huh.
