Yeah, I get that, and I get that the movie wouldn't have been much of a movie (not that it was anyway) had the victim chosen to go after the guy who did such a horrible thing to her instead of choosing to hide it while she went for her dream job.

Luckily, she ended up getting vindication for the crime AND the great job all in one fell swoop.
