Would it be possible to just let the bats keep the attic? I don't know enough about bats; is there any danger they'd scratch their way into the rest of the house?
Years ago, we had a similar problem with squirrels in the attic over the furnished room that's attached to our garage. Sealed-off space, not used for any storage, inaccessible to us. But there was wiring in that space, and we could hear them scuffling around above the light fixtures in the ceiling. Eventually we had the siding re-done and the rotted fascia replaced, which was how they'd gotten in. We were worried they'd chew through a wire and start a fire. But bats aren't rodents, so maybe that sort of damage wouldn't be an issue?
